A large crowd gathered in the River Room on the lower level of Warsaw’s historic Community Building to hear history and old folklore of Fairfield, Missouri. The town is now covered by Truman Lake, south of Warsaw on Highway 83. 

Shrine Club Rallies To Help Food Pantry

Several Warsaw Shrine Club members were talking recently about the tight budget that the Benton County Food Bank is under during the fourth quarter of each year. They decided to help by having a food drive to stock the shelves ahead of the end of the year and take off some of the pressure food bank volunteers experience while trying to feed many local residents.  

Veggies On Wheels! Zucchini Are Transformed Into Race Cars

 On an unusually comfortable summer evening, there was a good crowd in downtown Cole Camp for the Twelfth Annual Zucchini Race on Saturday, July 21.
Well-known former Cole Camp High School basketball coach Robert Farrington announced the event and provided interesting commentary. 
All sizes of decorated zucchini were on display before the event.  The rules for the races required that the axle had to pass through the body of the zucchini.  The maximum width of the race zucchini was 12 inches due to race track restrictions.

Arrrr! Pirates And Mermaids Brings Thrills And Adventure

Warsaw City Pool lifeguards Cash Miller and Rylee Pals created a magical evening for children as they appeared as a pirate and a mermaid for local children.  The Warsaw Park and Recreation Department presented an evening of Pirates and Mermaids on Saturday night at the Warsaw City Pool.
“This is a wonderful way to enjoy our great pool,” said Warsaw resident Lyla Weaver.  Lyla’s grandchildren enjoyed the evening swimming.

Ann Peters Receives Fancy Donated Quilt

 Ann is a member of our Unit #217, and resides in Warsaw. American Legion Auxiliary would like to thank Lori for this beautiful quilt, and to those that bought raffle tickets. The proceeds will go towards office supplies and items that are needed after the rebuilding from the fire at the post on August 11, 2017.

Chance For Fun Is No Gamble With Channel Hop Poker Run

The Warsaw Shrine Club raised $1,206.00 at their recent Annual  Channel Hop Poker Run held on the Lake of the Ozarks. Stops on the Poker Run included the Old Oar House, Buck Naked, Cardinal Cove, Holiday Hills, Possum Hollar, Moonies, Fatties, Surfside and Skippers. Buck Naked Marina helped coordinate the event and disburse the funds. 
The participants either go by boat, which amounted to 23 miles of water, or by land. They started at the 81 mile marker.

Ladies Golf League Supports Benton County Cancer Fund

On June 19, 2018, a golf tournament took place at Shawnee Bend Golf Course to raise money for the Benton County (BC) Cancer Fund. The board president of BC Cancer, Flo Dwyer, presented a check to June Walthall worth a total amount of $3,165! These two beautiful ladies were in charge of running the BC Cancer golf tournament held in September up until 4 years ago when Kelly Stackhouse took over that responsibility. 

Rodeo Brings Out Bountiful Bricolage

Rodeo fans filled the arena for the Twenty-seventh Annual Benton County Rodeo on July 6 and 7.
Bethany Tye was crowned Benton County Rodeo Queen. Madi Glor was crowned Rodeo Princess and Riley Nevius was crowned as the Little Miss of the Rodeo.  Rodeo Scholarship winners were C. J. Parks and Madi Glor.
According to Rodeo volunteer Erin Kellner, both nights of the rodeo had great attendance but on Saturday night it was standing room only.

Katy Trail Community Health Achieves A Perfect Score

Katy Trail Community Health welcomed three consultants and one project officer from the Health Resources and Services Administration to complete a 3 day operational site visit (OSV) on June 19-21, 2018.  These visits are completed every three years and provide assurance to the U.S. Health and Social Service Department that Community Health Centers are meeting all the requirements of the Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act.
