Vacation Bible School (VBS) at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, from June 25 to 29, has a sports-themed program this year, topped off by a visit and presentation from KC Wolf, the entertaining mascot for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Sing For The King Ministries Serves  Prison Inmates
Christy and James Hoagland, and Johnny Allen are prison missionaries who spread the word of God under the name “Sing For The King.” They are dedicated to reaching those in and out of prison with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and beautiful songs. They have been offering services in prisons, shelters, churches and more all over Missouri since 2016, from their home base in Warsaw. They are scheduled for a performance at River Church on June 24, at 7:00. 

Jubilee Days Brought Glorious Fun

Hundreds lined the streets as visitors and locals descended on Warsaw for the 52nd Annual Jubilee Days celebration this past weekend.
Samantha Blake, WHS sophomore, was crowned as the 2018 Warsaw Jubilee Days queen on Thursday night.  In addition to her crown, Blake won a $500 scholarship. First runner up was Brandi Hubert who won a $200 scholarship and Second Runner Up was Alexis Mantonya who won a $100 scholarship.  Miss Photogenic was awarded to Autumn Long, Sash Winner was Victoria Esser and Talent Winner was Autumn Bauer.

Fun Time For Warsaw River Rats

The third annual Warsaw River Rats “ Kids Needs To Fish” event was held on Saturday, June 2, at East Bledsoe Ferry. Over 300 kids showed up for the free  activity and with the weather cooperating, the kids and the workers all had a great time.
Each kid received a tackle box and a rod and reel. Donations to the event were made by Walmart, DB2 Construction, Cody’s Bait and Tackle, Edgar Baits, Shane and Terry L. Hunziker and a host of local businesses and various individuals around town.

Chuck Allcorn, chairman of the Jubilee Days Committee, says the Turtle Races have been held during every one of the 52 years of Jubilee Days, and they are the most fun and organized chaos a person can experience. Rich Long of Edwards,  said he has enjoyable memories of the races from the 1970s, when he was a kid; now every time he sees a turtle he thinks of Jubilee Days.
JoAnn Glowczewski, Warsaw librarian, said she remembers big crowds of people when she used to take her sons to the turtle races in the 1980s.

Hatchery Hooks Kids On Fishing

 The 17th Annual Kids Fishing Day was held on Saturday at Lost Valley Hatchery.  Lesly Conaway, Aquaculture Biologist, reported that 422 kids were fishing and 46 kids caught their very first fish.  Approximately 816 people attended the event to watch the children ages 2 through 15 fish.  Conaway reported that over 900 catfish and 250 sun fish were released into the kids fishing pond for the special event.
“The weather was beautiful, maybe a little too windy; however, everyone seemed to be having a great time,” Conaway said. 

Wine And Weather Combine For Fantastic Stroll

Over 1,100 wine enthusiasts filled Warsaw’s Main Street for the Seventh Annual Benton County Wine Stroll on Saturday afternoon and evening.
“We were very excited about the excellent turnout,” said Benton County Foundation president Shannon Smith.  “After last year’s wet weekend, we were worried that people might not come back, but they did.  Our numbers were way up over last year’s count of 700.”

R-IX District Names Two New Principals

WHS graduate Jared Wallace will be coming back to Warsaw as the South School  principal for the 2018-19 school year.
Wallace, a 2003 WHS graduate, finished his Bachelor degree from Missouri State in 2007.  He continued his education at William Woods University where he received his Master’s degree.
