Warsaw Set To Hold Junk Market

Warsaw Area Chamber of Commerce Director Mac Vorce pitched an idea to the City’s Board of Alderpersons, Monday evening March 19, which he called a “Main Street Junk Market,” to take place 8 AM - 3 PM June 16 on downtown Main Street and in several other venues around town. He asked the City to close portions of downtown Main St. for the event, which could see about 30 vendors selling all kinds of used items some might call “junk,” but antique shops could call “junique.” Vorce thought the event could evolve into a bigger annual event. Alderpersons agreed with his request.

 The Benton County Museum will open on April 6, with expectations of a growing number of visitors. Numerous historical, personal collections, on loan from local residents will be on display this year as well as a Centerpiece display of Dr. Gus C. Salley.

Dorothy Hinds Celebrates 100th Birthday At The B.C. Elks Lodge

Dorothy Hinds joined the Benton County Elks Lodge five years ago, when she was 95 years old. Her favorite thing to do at the Lodge has been to dance, and she was still dancing on March 1st when the Lodge celebrated her 100th birthday, a day early.  
Over 100 Elks members, friends and relatives of Hinds attended the event. Family members included two daughters, Deanna Hibbs and Ruth Wallace, and son Joey Hinds. Long-time boyfriend Gordon Smith, of Warrensburg, was also at her side.

The Warsaw Community Building was filled to capacity on Saturday night at the Eighth Annual Quarter Mania sponsored by the BSJ Cancer Fighting Team.    “We sold out of tickets three weeks before the event,” said organizer Sharon Guess.  “This was our biggest turnout to date.”

Expo Reels In Hunting And Fishing Enthusiasts

Over 400 people attended the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce Hunting and Fishing Expo held in the Warsaw Community Building on Saturday.
According to Chamber Director Mac Vorce, the Expo was a success.  “The weather wasn’t the best, but then more people came to see what our vendors had to offer since it was too cold and wet to do anything outside.”
Admission was $5 or $3 if the person brought a canned good which the Chamber donated to the Benton County Food Pantry.  All proceeds go toward the many Chamber events during the year.

Harbor West Senior Villas Opens To Great Fanfare

Applications are available to lease one of several remaining, newly constructed, Harbor West Villas at 17509 N. Dam Access Rd. in Warsaw.  The Villas include a total of 12 one-bedroom/one bath and 24 two-bedroom/one bath units. 
To be eligible, an applicant must be at least 55 years of age. Any additional occupants must be at least 19 years of age. Income limits also apply. One or two persons may occupy a one-bedroom villa; the two-bedroom villas have a 4-person maximum.
