Lincoln Cardinals Cap Perfect Junior High Season With Conference Trophy

On Saturday afternoon, the Lincoln junior high boys basketball team defeated Windsor, 40-22 for the Kaysinger Conference championship and an undefeated 13-0 season.
 
Forget the score, it was anything but easy.  Lincoln had defeated Windsor twice earlier this season by 20 and 11 points, respectively.
 
The old adage about beating a good team three times in a season is pretty much true.  The third time is tough.
 
Lincoln jumped out early to a 10-2 first quarter lead.
 

Bluebirds Bounce Stover At Home

The Cole Camp Blueburds defeated Stover, 60-49 on Tuesday, February 15, in Cole Camp.
 
It was 10-7 after one and  the Bluebirds were in control, 25-13 at halftime.
 
Stover would make a run as both teams warmed up from the field in the second half, but Cole Camp was up for the challenge and held a 41-34 third period margin.
 
The fourth quarter was wild, as Cole Camp's 6'6"  center Gage Cross scored 14 points on his way to a game high 26 point night.
 

Vandaveer Leads Lady Cards Past Green Ridge On Senior Night

The Lincoln Lady Cardinals had a 16 point lead over Green Ridge after three quarters of play, 43-27 at last Tuesday night's "Senior Night" in Lincoln.
 
However, the five players that make up Green Ridge's entire squad made a late charge, but still came up short in a 53-44 final tally.
 
Lincoln led 13-10 after one as senior Grace Eichler banged in two buckets and went 4-4 from the free throw line. Lincoln's full court 1-2-2 press hurt Green Ridge as Lincoln ran off to a 28-16 halftime lead.

Green Ridge came in at 4-16 on the season before their contest with Lincoln.It wasn't pretty as the Cardinals jumped to a 22-5  first quarter lead.
 
Cole Smith, a reserve senior, got the start on Senior Night and ripped a three at the end of the game that brought the home crowd to their feet.
 
Lincoln led 41-22 at the half as Green Ridge hit a buzzer beater three.
 
Lincoln started to sub out their starters as the Cardinals took control of the game.
 

'Cats, Ladycats Swept At Sherwood

In what would end up being the final regular season game on both of their schedules, the Warsaw girls and boys basketball games both absorbed one more loss each last Tuesday night after their trip to Sherwood.
 
The Ladycats got off to another slow start and found themselves down 19-4 at the end of the first.  A 19-6 advantage in the second gave the home team a 38-10 advantage at the halftime break.
 

Lady Bluebirds Advance With District Win Over Warsaw

Cole Camp seeded fourth defeated fifth seed Warsaw on Monday night in Class 3 District 8 play on their home floor 49-34.
 
They had met twice before during the regular season. They played at  Warsaw for their first game of the season with Cole Camp winning 61-50. 
 
A few days later, they met again in the Warsaw tournament. Cole Camp won  59-45.
 
Desiree Heimsoth led with 28 points in their first meeting but this time Warsaw shut her down with just six points with only one field goal.

Love Continues To Impress At SBU

The SBU indoor track and field team traveled to the University of Arkansas on Friday to have nearly 30 Bearcats compete in the Arkansas qualifier. This was the last meet before the GLVC Championships next weekend, February 25-27.
 
"We had some big marks and some gutsy performances today! This was a great meet getting us prepared for conference next week! Congrats to our athletes who hit person bests and National marks today, said Head Coach Corey McElhaney!
 

Warsaw Cheer Competes In Springfield

WARSAW CHEER attended the MCCA competition in Springfield on the campus of Drury University on Sunday.  They include (L to R): Izzy Edge, Dallas Steinhoff, Karlie Nelson, Jaidyn Estes, Sydney Boley, Kaylee Lawson, Summer McCannon, Jilly Giot and Tatum Bohl.

WHS Wrestlers Compete, Knocked Out In Wrestlebacks At State

WARSAW'S Donovan Campbell (top) and Hudson Karr  (bottom) were both sent to wrestlebacks during last week's 92nd Annual MSHSAA Boys Wrestling Championships held at the Mizzou Arena in Columbia.  Unfortunately, both were eliminated and fell short of obtaining a medal.

Warsaw wrestling qualified three for this week's 92nd Annual Boys MSHSAA Wrestling Championships where they'll look to take one more step towards now becoming a state medalist.
 
The state tournament will begin on Thursday morning  at Mizzou Arena in Columbia and continue through Friday.  
 
At the 113 pound weight class, Donovan Campbell took third in districts after a pin in his trophy match.  The junior will make his first trip to state with a 24-10 record.
