Lady Cats Win District

The Warsaw Lady Cats are on a mission to reach the Final Four and they took a couple of steps on that journey last Thursday. The road to any championship game is never easy, but the Lady Cats would jump out early with a run in the second, three in the third and one in the fifth and held on for the 5-1 victory over a pretty good Lamar team.
Kya Schepker would pitch another outstanding game, giving up one run on six hits with five strikeouts. She threw 43 strikes out of 73 pitches.

Warsaw Freshman Wins Conference Championship

Warsaw’s Freshman Alyssa Alcantara became the first ever Cross Country Ozark Mountain Conference (OMC) Champion last Tuesday in Buffalo. Alcantara outran seniors, juniors, sophomores and other freshmen  from El Dorado Springs, Sherwood , Butler, Buffalo, and Skyline, 23 runners in all, to claim the title in Warsaw’s new conference. Alyssa is the daughter of Ray and Shannon Alcantara . She was very successful as an eighth grader but  capturing the conference championship in her first try is quite an achievement.

Rare Coaching Match Up At WHS

It was a very special night on the volleyball court at WHS last Monday night. Not only was it the Cancer Awareness Night and the girls wore pink uniforms for the occasion, but it was rare match up of coaches in mother, Shelly Hodges, versus her daughter, Candace Bauer.
Coach Hodges commented, “This was a highly anticipated game!!! Playing Stover we are ALWAYS pumped up for because #1 I graduated from there but this year my daughter is the Head Coach!!! 

Lady Cats Beat Sedalia

It was a reunion of longtime friends as Warsaw hosted Sedalia Smith Cotton last Thursday at Bledsoe West Ferry Sports Complex.  Sedalia’s first year new Head Coach Megan Palmer is a Warsaw graduate, having played on the state championship team some eight years ago. Warsaw’s Assistant Coach Kelli Eierman was also a member of the championship team and is a close friend of Palmer.

Homecoming At WHS 2018

  Fans filled Randy Morrow Field at Warsaw High School Friday night for the Annual Homecoming ceremonies and football game.  The evening started out with the recognition of the first WHS football team from 1978.  Members of the team on hand to celebrate included: Ron Roellig, Mark Porter, Scott Rolf, Mike Munson, Darrell Eason, Raymond Findley, Ernesto Flores, Eddie Carroll, Steve Porter, Gary Martinez, Clay Kreisel, Leo Porter, Billy Shinn, Paul Eason, and Mark Eason.  That first WHS football team was coached by Alan Meyer and Ken Bowden.

1978 Warsaw Football Team Remembers Humble Beginnings

Fifteen players from the very first Warsaw football team reunited last Friday night at Randy Morrow Field for Homecoming.
An undefeated JV team would move up to varsity and take their lumps that year going 1-8. From there they went 4-6 to 6-4 for their first winning season.

Rough Night In Buffalo For Wildcats

Buffalo came into their match up with Warsaw as a slight favorite. However, few expected the Bison to win by a 51-12 score. Warsaw felt apart in the second and fourth quarters, while Buffalo took advantage of every break and opportunity in handing the Wildcats their worst defeat of the season.

Warsaw Runs Over Sherwood For First Win

On a rather warm September night, the 0-3 Warsaw Wildcats traveled to Sherwood and came away with their first win of the season 48-6.
Sherwood jumped on Warsaw on their first possession at the 9:47 mark with a 45 yard TD run by Aaron McCubbin. It was an odd play in which McCubbin came off the pack and ran untouched down the left sideline.
The 0-3 Markmen’s confidence level soared, but things would change in a hurry. Zach Chapman would run around the right side for a 51 yard touchdown. Eli Hawkins ran in the PAT and Wildcats lead 8-6.

Warsaw Lady Cats Roar In Softball Tournament

The Warsaw girls softball team defeated all four of their opponents in fine fashion on Saturday to capture the championship of the round robin Warsaw tournament. The girls battled the heat along with the other teams, but having three aces on the pitching staff and a deep roster obviously gave Warsaw a huge advantage. Head Coach Steve Larson commented, "I have the privilege and the luxury of having 12 quality players that can play various positions."
