Warsaw Girls Take Consolation Honors

The Warsaw girls took the consolation trophy with a 50-37 revenge victory over Cole Camp on Friday night in the Warsaw Tournament. Cole Camp had beaten the Lady Wildcats 47-43 at Cole Camp  in their first game of the season.
Cole Camp lead 10-4 after one and 21-10 at half and it looked like a repeat performance of their first meeting.
However, Warsaw came out with a press and lead 29-26 after three.

Lincoln Beats Warsaw 61-60 On Last Second Shot

In a game that had a little bit of everything, the Lincoln Cardinals prevailed over the Warsaw Wildcats 61-60 in the semi-finals of the 85th Annual Warsaw Boys Tournament.
It was perhaps one of the greatest games played at WHS in recent years.
Junior Guard Logan Davis missed the front end of an one and one leading 60 -59 and Lincoln Head Coach Tyler Burke called time out with just 10.7 second to play.

Knob Noster Beats Lincoln For First Place In Tourney

The second seeded Knob Noster Panthers defeated the fourth seeded Lincoln Cardinals 61-51 to claim the championship of the 85th Warsaw Tournament.
Knob jumped out to 15-11 lead and led 26-25 at the half. Lincoln lead 23-21 with seconds to go but Knob hit two free throws for the half time advantage.

El Dorado Springs Beats Cole Camp

Six seeded El Dorado Springs defeated three seeded Cole Camp 55-45 behind Paige Esry’ s 35 points in the opening round of the Warsaw Tournament on Monday night.
The Lady Bulldogs led all of the way at 15-10, 22-24 and 37-29.
The Lady Bluebirds made a run in the fourth at 41-47 but Esry made 4-4 free throws down the stretch to help extend the margin.
Juniors Camryn Schear and Tori Harding had 16 and 9 points respectfully to lead the Lady Bluebirds.

Warsaw Loses To Stockton In Season Opener

Warsaw lost their season opener to Stockton 59-44 on the road last Tuesday night. Stockton coached by former Warsaw Coach Gerald Henderson jumped out early and never looked back. New Head Coach Scott Floyd called time out at 6-4 and 13-6 but couldn’t find a way to slow the Stockton Tigers down. Stockton passed the ball unselfishly around the horn and took the open shot. They led 22-8 after one and 31-18 at the half.

WHS Basketball Tournament In Full Swing

 One of the longest running invitational basketball tournaments in the state is in full swing at Warsaw High School this week. The Warsaw Boys’ Invitational Tournament is celebrating its 85th anniversary while the girls are celebrating thirty years.

WHS Athletes Raise Money For Cancer

The WHS football and volleyball teams recently raised money for Benton County Cancer Fund.
Head Volleyball Coach Shelly Hodges and Head Football Coach and A.D Ryan Boyer presented the Lions Club with a check for $585.00.
Volleyball raised money by raffling tickets with a serving game and the football players sold Breast Cancer shirts.
Lions Club member and long time volunteer for the Cancer Fund, Larry Walthall, attended the athletic banquet and thanked the school for their support and donation..

High School Basketball Is Here

High school basketball will start next week and it should be very interesting to say the least. All three Benton County teams are entered once again in the  85th Warsaw boys and girls tournament. 
The Warsaw boys drew the eighth seed and will face the No. 1 Seeded Skyline Tigers. Lincoln is seeded fourth which could be a mistake. Tyler Burke’s team could be pretty good this year before all is said and done.

The Loneliest Coach in Benton County

For the past three weeks, Tyler Burke, head boys basketball coach at Lincoln high school has had just four boys turn out for varsity basketball practice. The rest of his team has been on the football field as Lincoln has once again made a good run in the playoffs.
However, now that their football season is over, Burke’s team will be pretty solid. So I wouldn’t be too sorry for him just yet.
