Annual WHS Alumni Game Benefits Jelinek's, Palmer's

After a cancelation due to rain and using a rescheduled date, the weather finally cooperated and teams took the field this past Saturday on Poe Field at the City of Warsaw's West Bledsoe Ferry Sports Complex for the 2nd Annual WHS Baseball/Softball Alumni game.

As a reporter, anytime you deal with a coaching change or dealing with a coach for the first time, you naturally wonder how you will get along . I can honestly say Coach Todd Rusk is one of the nicest, friendliest coaches I have ever had the opportunity to work with. He had a special rapport with his players that I greatly admired.
Coach Rusk retired a few days ago from coaching and teaching at Cole Camp . I am going to miss him. Below is our interview.
JL- When did you get into coaching?

Lincoln's Kelly DeHaan, A.D., Coach, Awesome Background

Kelly DeHaan is the new Athletic Director at Lincoln High school. Adam Curtis stepped down to become the new principal.
Kelly is also the assistant softball coach. She calls the pitches, coaches first bases and does whatever is needed. This reporter has watched her wipe the tears from the eyes of a player who was frustrated at herself over her performance on the field. So it is easy to see that she really cares about her players.

They say that the playoffs are a whole new season, and like their regular season, the Wildcats experienced both the highest of highs and the lowest of lows in a matter of just three days.
“We went into the year with goals of winning our conference and district,” head coach Johnny Eierman said.  “We won both and played really well when it counted at the end of the season.”  

Ladycats Season Slips Away Late

It was another heartbreaking end to the season for the Ladycats as they lost a 2-0 lead in the fourth and then gave up 6 runs in the fifth in a 9-2 final in the MSHSAA State Quarterfinals played at Skyline last Thursday.  
In a much anticipated pitcher’s duel, Warsaw’s Kylee Fajen, who will pitch for Evangel University in Springfield next year, struck out 5 of the first 6 batters she faced and kept the Lady Tigers’ lineup in check.  

Lincoln Outslugs Smithton To Advance In District Play

MSHSAA urged all of the district teams to play on Saturday in spite of muddy conditions due to keeping with their schedule and the forecast of rain this week.
So Lincoln’s ground crew went to work and the sun came out and both Lincoln games went ahead as schedule.
Lincoln would beat Smithton 11-6 in a game of seven errors ,four by the Tigers and three by the Cardinals.
Smithton scored two in the first as they came ready to play. However, Lincoln would tie it with two of their own in their half.

Lincoln Takes Consolation Trophy In Eight Innings

Connor Lynde scored in the bottom of the eighth inning on a pass ball from third to give Lincoln a 7-6 victory over Sacred Heart at Centennial park in Sedalia.
The Thursday matchup for Kaysinger conference consolation honors saw the lead change hands four times on a nice day for baseball.
Sacred Heart scored in the first while Lincoln came back with two in their bottom of the inning. Caden Smallwood was in the mix as he doubled driving in Connor Lynde. He went to third on a pass ball and scored on nice bunt by Levi Campbell to take the lead.

Lincoln Softball Wins Fourth Kaysinger Conference Championship In A Row

Excluding last season when no one played because of the virus, top seeded Lincoln claimed their four straight Kaysinger Conference tournament championship with a 10-3 victory over the seventh seed Sacred Heart Lady Gremlins on Saturday.
With 38 bags of drying compound dumped on the infield and the games moved back two hours, the dirt was in good condition as the players took the field.
Lincoln won their semifinal contest over Windsor 5-4 in eight innings after blowing a three run seventh inning lead.

Heat 12U Takes On First Tourney

With not much practice time under their belts, and with even less time outside due to recent weather, the Show-Me Heat 12U baseball squad took on their first tournament this past weekend at the Turf ‘N Surf tournament held at the brand new Ballparks National Sports Complex in Macks Creek.
In the first of two pool games on Friday night, Heat was overmatched by an older, more experienced LOZ Redbirds team and took one on the chin, 9-0.
