Despite Cold, 'Cats Golf Tees It Up

For the first time in over a year, the Warsaw golf team hit the links last week when they traveled to Higginsville and Clinton for two separate events.
On Tuesday, the Wildcats took to Higginsville Country Club for the Higginsville Frostbite Scramble and it didn’t take long for the golfers in Green and Black to realize the namesake of the event.  With cold and windy weather and rain coming down, conditions proved much less than ideal.

The Wildcats pounded out 13 hits and took advantage of 6 errors made by the Green Ridge defense on their way to a 5 inning, 14-0 home win over the Tigers on Freund Field at West Bledsoe Ferry Sports Complex on Monday night.
A somber moment of silence was observed prior to the first pitch in memory of WHS coach Bailey Jelinek who passed away in a tragic accident last Sunday, but then, as it is believed he would’ve wanted, it was game time.

Boys Basketball
Campbell beat Salisbury 67-50 for the state championship last week. Lincoln who lost to Salisbury 53-52 on a controversial call will have to wonder what might have been.
One thing is for sure, Lincoln improved as time went on.
At the end of the season, the Lincoln  boys zipped the ball around the court. On the second day of practice, their passing was far from sufficent.

Jackman Takes State

Boston Jackman pinned all three of his opponents at Friday’s Missouri USA State Championship tournament, thus claiming his first state title and the only state championship for the Warsaw Wildcats Youth Wrestling program at this year’s finals. 
Jackman dominated in each of his matches, pinning all three of his opponents early in the first periods.

TYLER BURKE ADJUSTS HIS MASK in a season of adjustments. The virus cost teams games and forced rescheduling problems. Throughout, the Lincoln Cardinals finished 18-7 with a young team that won their district for the first time in 18 years behind the coaching and encouragement of Burke. They improved tremendously from day one and that is the sign of a good coach. Congrats, Coach!

Lincoln Comes Up Short In State Playoffs

It was a game to be remembered as Salisbury came into Lincoln at 20-2 in Sectional action last Tuesday night. It was a day filled with anticipation and the little town of Lincoln was buzzing with excitement. 
For the second game in a row on Lincoln’s hardwood it came down to a controversial call and a free throw.This time it was Devon Parrott fouling out and Jackson King hitting a free throw for the 54-53 victory. King missed a couple earlier as he was 7-10 from the line but buried this one. He ended with a game high 24 points.

Bagley Extends Season, Headed To State

Bagley qualified in his semifinal bout with a tech fall win over Lone Jack’s Brenden Shepard at the Class 1 Sectional 2 event held in Versailles on Saturday and finished with a 2nd place medal after falling in a 4-0 decision to Alex Even of Fatima. I felt like it was a good day,” Bagley said.  “Qualifying to go back to state was one of my goals and now I just have to keep grinding to get ready.”

Clutch Free Throws Give Lincoln First District Title In 18 Years

Lincoln was a perfect 13-13 from the line as they defeated Smithton 54-52 in Lincoln for their first district title since 2003.
When asked how long it had been, Athletic Director Adam Curtis pointed to the banner, “I was on that team.”
The Class 2 District 8 showdown between the two schools had been brewing for awhile.
Lincoln Head Coach Tyler Burke was emotional after the game, “As a coach, moreso than as a player,  I remember the years we came close; 2012, 2013, 2014. This was for the kids, they deserved it, they worked hard.”

Eugene came into Lincoln on Thursday night with a record of 14-8 and a front line of 6’7, 6’7, and 6’4.
The smaller Lincoln team played one of it’s better defensive games of the year in a 53-45 victory in district play.
Both teams started off slow as Eugene went with a 3-2 zone and stayed with it throughout the game.  
Lincoln’s Mack Hesse was helmed inside with Eugene’s towering front line.
Eugene picked up a couple of charge fouls early as Lincoln players held their ground.

Wildcats Youth Takes Podium At Bolivar
Four out of four Wildcats youth wrestlers placed at the Take It To the Mat Tournament held in Bolivar this past Saturday.  Take It To the Mat was an “open” event and the last tournament before Missouri USA Wrestling youth districts to be held at Warsaw this coming weekend.
Carson Kirk brought home a 1st place medal, Drake Murrell took 2nd and Urijah Phillips and Josh Harvath both finished third.
