Local Fans Watched Skyline Take Third

The Skyline Lady Tigers have won the Warsaw girls basketball tournament numerous times, including ten of the last eleven years. They won the state championship six times and have 24 final four appearances. 
So it was not surprising to see several Benton County residents at the state championships in Springfield last week to watch Skyline play.

The Skyline Lady Tigers defeated Blue Eye 67-30 on Saturday evening at Drury College in Springfield Mo. to earn their sixth straight trip back to the final four. Senior Kaylee DaMitz, three time all state, led the way with 29 points. Blue Eye (24-6) went nearly seven minutes with a field goal but back to back threes brought them back to 16-9 after one. Skyline led by 18 at the half and had a running clock to start the fourth at 58-28.

Opening Day At Bennett Springs

One of my best friends ever, Oliver Forth, who passed away several years ago, loved to drive down on opening day and watch the fishermen at Bennett Springs. So keeping with that spirit of adventure, I went by and picked up my friend John Taylor and away we went . 
The 45 minute drive to Bennett Springs State Park from Warsaw was enjoyable considering the nice weather on the opening day of trout season across Missouri.

Cole Camp Loses To Boonville In Districts

Cole Camp jumped out early in a very physical match up with Boonville in the opening round of district play at Cole Camp on Wednesday night. However, after leading 14-8 after one and 26-21 at the half, they trailed 37-34 after three. The Bluebirds would fall to a tough Boonville club 56-45.
It was a closer game than indicated by the final score. Both teams raced up and down the court in the second half with the Bluebirds going ice cold from the floor in the final ticks of the clock.

The Life Of A Student Athlete

While there are many athletes at WHS who do well in both academics and sports, I had the opportunity to interview Aubrie McRoberts who plays both softball and basketball and Reagan Shelby who is an outstanding catcher for the WHS softball team. Both were recently named Academic All-State for softball. Below is our interview.
JL- How much harder is it to manage your time between sports and school work? You miss a lot of time in school by leaving early to go to away games. How do you handle that?

Lincoln Wins On Senior Night

Both the girls and the boys basketball teams won on Tuesday night. It was Senior Night and both teams came up with victories over Stover.
The girls pulled away at halftime, being tied up at 25 all to win going away 50-39 for their second conference win of the season. 
The Steadfast Six had trouble stopping Emily Bauer, who had 20 points for Stover, but Lincoln had three players in doubles figures with Haley Ebeling, Chloe Reese and Lindsey Koll having 11 points each. Christina Eckhoff had nine, Jordan Young six and Blayke Bays had two.

On Friday night, before the Warsaw boys game with Southern Boone, Seven Hall of Fame members were brought center court to be recognized before the hometown fans.

77th Annual Lions Club- Tournament Survives Weather

In spite of freezing rain canceling games and moving the schedule around, the 77th Annual Lions Club Tournament was a success last week and a whole lot of fun for the kids.
As always, the proceeds for the tournament goes to many worthy charities in the surrounding area. The community wishes to thank the many sponsors for their gracious support.
Tournament Director Corbin Cain commented, “Even with some bad weather, we were able to get the games played with some good attendance.

Coach Bob Campbell Inducted Into Warsaw Basketball Hall Of Fame

Coach Bob Campbell, a long time native of Warsaw once said, "I knew while playing ball as a kid that I wanted to be a coach.”  Needless to say, that decision greatly effected the course of his life and allowed him to be a great influence in the Warsaw area.
Coach Campbell taught hundreds if not thousands of kids the fundamentals of basketball and other sports through his PE classes, after school programs and his various youth teams.

Warsaw Wildcats Win On Court Warming Night

The Warsaw Wildcats claimed their 13th win of the season and their first conference win by defeating Eldon 63-54 on Friday night at home before a good Court Warming crowd.
With the lead changing several times in the first quarter,Warsaw would pull in front with baskets by Cole Branson and Logan Davis to take a 17-13 first quarter lead. It was 31-26 at half time and both teams went into the locker room with plenty to think about.
