If time becomes distance, then Jubilee Days 2018 is just a hoot and a holler down the road.  The 52nd Annual event will take place June 6-9, in downtown Warsaw and Drake Harbor, with favorite returning events plus some outstanding new entertainment.  This year’s theme is Stars and Stripes Forever.
Chuck Allcorn, Chairman of the Jubilee Days Committee, reports that comedian Hillbilly Bob, with his rusty 1932 Ford Model A, will be strolling around the streets of Warsaw for the first time on Friday and Saturday, June 8 and 9.  He will make balloons for kids and tell jokes to all.  He plans to make several stops in town including a drop by the Shrine Club, the organization that is sponsoring his appearance.
Also new this year is Helen Russell and Company performing a toe-tapping live music show right after the Saturday morning parade.  She and her band will be followed up by the Morton Sisters in a patriotic tribute. If you have attended the Historical Society Fund Raiser in the past two years, you have had a pleasant taste of the entertainment to be provided by the Morton Sisters.
Friday and Saturday night Dirt Road Addiction and Seven Bridges Road will perform on stage in front of the Post Office.  Seven Bridges Road is known as an  Eagles and Credence Clearwater Revival tribute band.
Jones and Company will return with a carnival set up on the harbor and the Shriners will spice up the parade. Allcorn said that the parade will be bigger and better than ever because many people who have not previously taken part have requested to be in it this year.
“There will be a car show, turtle races, a kid’s bike race, and a Stars and Stripes Forever 5K Run and One Mile Walk,” said Allcorn. “All of the craft and food vendors will also return. Twelve different venues have provided entries into the Karaoke contest to be held in the Community Building on Saturday.”
The Jubilee Days contestants for Queen, Princess, Junior Miss, and Little Miss met on Saturday, April 28 for photos, as well as ice cream and tea parties. There are 12 candidates for Jubilee Days Queen, six for Princess, seven for Junior Miss, and eight for Little Miss. The Queen and Princess pageants will take place Thursday, June 7 with the talent review at 2 PM, and the pageant that evening. The Little Miss and Junior Miss candidates will compete on Friday, June 8 at 5:30 PM. Little Misses will have a costume portion, and Junior Misses will have a talent show. All pageants will take place in the Community Building and winners will participate in the June 8 parade.
Allcorn said that the Jubilee Days nine-member committee is a corporation in its own right. The committee works year round, and is already looking into bands to perform in 2019. Members were also looking for tiaras around Christmas for the pageants. He said that after the fun is over on Saturday night, committee members will be back downtown putting everything away for next year.
“We apologize for any inconvenience the extra traffic causes during Jubilee Days,” said Allcorn. “But this is a great way to attract people who might want to live in Warsaw. I appreciate the many sponsors of our event who keep most of the activities and entertainment free for everyone attending.”
