Anita L. Pickens

Anita L.
Pickens
Our beloved Mother Anita L. Pickens passed away at home peacefully surrounded by her family on August 26, 2020 at the age of 74. Anita was born in Inglewood California to Frank and Wilma Hartman.
Anita was raised in Inglewood, California where she spent hours at the beach with family enjoying the sun and salt air. This was a favorite pastime of hers that she passed down to her children and grandchildren. She attended Morningside High School, where she was honored to be chosen as a Homecoming Princess by her peers, even at a young age it was easy for everyone who met her to see not only her beauty but also her beautiful soul. At the age of 15 she began dating her High School sweetheart Warren Pickens, whom she became engaged to on the night of her High School graduation and married one year later. They were married for 55 years.
Anita was always happy as she built her life with Warren, they lived in Huntington Beach, CA until 1993 when they moved to Warsaw, MO. She bore 6 children but her house was always full of more. She opened her home and her heart to everyone. There was always “room for one more” at the Pickens dinner table because Anita made sure everyone who entered her house was made to feel welcome and like family. She had a loving and positive influence on countless lives.
Family has always been a driving force in Anita’s life, her deep love for her husband Warren and their 6 children was evident in everything she did. Anita kept busy from sunup to sundown taking care of her husband and children. She was always there to support and celebrate her family through their life’s achievements from grade school activities, sporting events, graduations, weddings, births of grandchildren and career achievements. Just as important she was also the Pillar of strength and a soft place to land to any of her family’s challenging events in life.
Anita’s creativity, talents and internal drive led her to becoming an entrepreneur. She spent many years making and selling chocolate candies and wallets with her sister Jean. She also created a small business of Wedding and Special Occasion cakes. She used her creativity and talents with cooking to entertain friends, organize large events and she even authored a cook book.
Anita is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she faithfully served her community in many callings in the Church. She spent countless hours of service and leadership to the Young Women, Relief Society Sisters and the Young Adult Men and Women of the church. Anita’s service reached beyond church callings as she lived her life in a Christlike manner sharing her sweet heart, filled with compassion for others. Her testimony of the Savior never wavered.
Anita is survived by her Children: Natalie Pickens, Todd and Nadine Sincock, Nanette Pickens, Warren and Tena Pickens, John and Stephanie Pickens, Chad and Kirsten Pickens; 13 grandchildren: Lexi, Hunter, Tyler, Ashlee, Jake, Cole, Luke, Maddie, Jade, Lily, Ava, Josie and Brody; Sister Jean Pearce and Brother Frank Hartman.
