Trey Palmer, George Montez and Alyssa Alcantara all punched their tickets to state with qualifying runs at this past weekend’s district cross country meet held in Warrensburg.
Palmer, a junior, had a strong run as he posted his personal record time with a 17:44.60 that gave him a 4th place finish.  The finish gave Palmer honors of All-District for the second year in a row.
Montez, just a freshman, finished with a time of 18:40.60.  That time was good enough for a 15th place finish as he just made the final cut to advance to state competition by the slimmest of margins.  Only the top 15 from each division are awarded All-District and qualify for state.
Alcantara, a sophomore, garnered All-District honors for her second straight year and qualified for the state meet with a time of 22:40.00 and a 10th place finish.  This was Alcantara’s second best time of the season.
“It must have been a great day to run,” Warsaw XC Coach Ehren Banfield said.  “There were a lot of great times turned in and we had a lot of runners who recorded personal bests.”
Other runners and their finishes for the Wildcats included:  Logan Schockmann (21:41.90), Elijah Dority (22:04.20), Scott Winters (22:11.90) and Calvin Long (23:13.00).  Kathryn Ricke also finished with a strong run of 30:22.20.
Palmer, Montez and Alcantara will compete at the MSHSAA Cross Country event this Saturday, November 9, 2019, at the Championship Cross Country Course at Gans Creek Recreation Area in Columbia, Missouri.  Palmer and Montez will race at 9:35am and Alcantara will hit the course at 10:50am.
