Football Is Here

Well, the 2018 WHS Football Jamboree is history and as always it was a lot of good, old fashion fun. The fans got a taste of football and the players were able to tackle someone other than their own teammates.
Head Coach Ryan Boyer commented on the event, "The jamboree is a glorified practice and is a chance for the coaches to evaluate the younger players. It gives the kids a chance to play against someone other than their own team. We were very pleased with our effort tonight. We have come along way from last year.”
The jamboree also gives the players a chance to impress the coaching staff and to earn more playing time. It is evident that with all of the game films available that the coaches don’t show everything they have at a jamboree. That was evident with the low scoring totals and the fact that all four teams played their JV squads quite a bit during Friday night’s action.
Warsaw is preparing for Cass Midway next week at home. Pigskin Magazine had Warsaw at 5-4.
The districts match-ups came out Friday and Warsaw will once again have powerhouse Lamar to contend with along the way.
Warsaw’s defense looked stronger at times. Lane Bates got a sack early in the first contest. The fans observed a few holes in the defensive secondary. Dalton Nickles made a couple of real nice tackles. Justin Martin  and Cameron Taylor scored TD’s for Warsaw.
The Warsaw coaching staff consists of Coach Boyer and assistants Danny Morrsion,Kyle Stoecklein,Jared Steenburgen, Nathan Parker, Justin Thomas and Johnny Eierman. With three former Warsaw quarterbacks in that group, then the QB position should be solid and well informed.
The team manager is Ashten Cunningham.
Speaking of quarterbacks, both Matt Couzins and Brady Slavens had fair showings. Couzins didn’t show the magic in his arm but I am sure we will see it next Friday night. Sadly,  Matt Luebbert is out for the season. He had the makings of an all -state receiver even if he couldn’t have returned at QB. Now it falls to Dalton Nickles, who showed some good ability late last season.
For those keeping score, Warsaw beat Osage 1-0, tied Buffalo 1-1 and tied Skyline at 0-0. We hope to see you at the games.
