Joyce E. Kathman, age 71, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2020 at the St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.  She was born on September 25, 1948 in St. Louis, Missouri the daughter of Lilburn and Dorothy (Kania) DeGeare.  She grew up in St. Louis and graduated from Fox High School in 1967.  On November 18, 1967 she was united in marriage to Larry Wells, unto this union two children were born.  They made their home in St. Louis moving to the Lake in the early 90’s.  Larry preceded her in death in January of 2004.  In September of 2009 she was united in marriage to Ron Kathman, Sr.  They continued to make their home here in Warsaw.
Joyce loved her flower gardening, fly fishing, traveling and the beach.  Above all else she loved family and spending time with them.  She especially got great joy from her grandkids and great grandkids.  She could spend hours on the floor playing and reading with the littles or long phone calls with the older kids to offer encouragement and comfort.
You could always find her in the stands cheering on her grandsons when they played football, meeting up in Springfield to take one to lunch or cruising the aisles of Hobby Lobby on “Girls Day” with the granddaughters.  She was the “go-to” for advice and guidance.  Her favorite saying “God’s got this!” will forever be in our hearts.  She has left a hole that can never be filled.
Joyce is survived by her husband Ron, of the home, two children; Jason Wells, and his wife Janet, of Collins, Missouri and Cindy Scott, and her husband Brian, of Quincy, Missouri, two step-children; Ron Kathman, Jr. and his fiancé Shawna Isenberg of St. Louis, Missouri and Katie Kathman and her fiancé Mike Mayes, of Imperial, Missouri, six grandchildren; Emily Shelby and her husband Evan, Jake Wells, Jessica Scott, Ben Wells, Abbey Scott and Samuel Scott, three step-grandchildren; Makenzey Kathman and Madison and Morgan Sheppard, three great grandchildren; Emery Shelby, Sadie Shelby and Dawson Scott.
Joyce is also survived by her mother, Dorothy Funke, of Pacific, Missouri, two brothers Ronald DeGeare, and his wife Debbie, of Newberg, North Carolina and Kevin Funke, and his wife Sue, of St. Louis, three sisters; Barbara Kisner, and her husband Jerry, of Catawissa, Missouri, Sharon Frank, and her husband Jerry, of St. Louis and Judy Moore, of Warsaw, numerous nieces and nephews other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services for Joyce I. Kathman will be held at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at the Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw, Missouri with Pastor Tom Renfro, officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral from 10:00 until 11:30 A.M. and Interment will follow the funeral at the Shawnee Cemetery in Warsaw.
