Lulu Maye (Swearngin) Johnson, 79, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away in her home on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, surrounded by family. She was born on January 18, 1941 in Warsaw, Missouri at the doctor’s clinic. Her parents, Jack and Goldie Mae (Turpin) Swearngin, walked in to town from the country to the doctor’s office where she was born.  In 1959, she graduated from Warsaw High School.
On March 21, 1959, Steve Gardner united her in marriage to Paul Johnson at her nephew’s home in Warsaw.  Lulu Maye worked as a school cook at South School Elementary for a few years when her children were young.  She also worked for three years in the Benton County Courthouse in the county clerk’s office. She was a member of the Fristoe Tabernacle in Fristoe.
She was involved in the PTA at South School and was president for three years.  She was also very involved in her children’s 4H group, Turkey Creek, where she served as a project leader and president of the club for 14 years. But her true passion was the family farm, where she and Paul milked dairy cows for 35 years and raised polled Hereford cow calf pairs her entire life.
She also loved gardening, brush-hogging, putting up hay, raising chickens and hogs, cutting firewood, clearing land, riding horses, and spending time with the animals she raised.  She especially loved her family and spending time with them.  Some of her favorite memories were just working on the farm, fishing with her grandkids, wading and campfires down on Turkey Creek.
She is survived by her oldest son, Robert Johnson and his wife Karen Johnson; her youngest son, Rodney Johnson and his wife Katie Johnson; and her oldest daughter Paula Jeanne Ealey.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Robyn (Johnson) Payne, Kerri (Johnson) Wittman, Tiffanie Ritzman, Tyler Ealey, Rusty Johnson, Jeremiah Johnson, Sarah Johnson and Natalie Johnson; and her great grandchildren Adalyn and Clayton Payne, and Molly and Wyatt Ritzman.  She is also survived by her Uncle “Doc” Swearngin and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Lulu Maye was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Goldie Mae Swearngin, and her husband, Paul Johnson. Also preceding her in death was her brother Ralph Eugene ¨Butch¨ Swearngin. 
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2020, at Turkey Creek Chapel near Warsaw on Poorboy Road with Pastor Tony Smith presiding and where the family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m.  Burial will be next to her husband Paul Johnson at Turkey Creek Cemetery near Warsaw.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Turkey Creek Chapel in care of the Fox Funeral Home, PO Box 37, Cole Camp, MO 65325.
