Seasonal Depression- Activities Conquer The Winter Blues

January weather tends to discourage outdoor fun, but there are plenty of local indoor activities worth checking out. 
One big event coming to the Truman Lake Visitor Center on January 13 is Eagle Days, from 8:30 AM to 4 PM. There will be live eagle presentations given by Dickerson Zoo, as well as informative vendors, a local art display, wood art and photography of wildlife and eagles. There will be a kid’s work shop and video entitled “Where Eagles Soar.” More information is available by calling 660-438-2216.
For sports enthusiasts, there is the Warsaw Wrestling Invitational at Warsaw High School on Saturday, January 13. It will take place in the gym, from 9 AM to 3 PM, and should be pretty exciting with several local contenders. John Boise Middle School will host an 8th grade boys and girls basketball tournament from January 8-12. Beginning times vary from 4 to 6:30 PM.
The Chocolate & Wine Tasting Gala, in Cole Camp, will make your taste buds dance with delight. It is to be held January 14, 2 to 4:30 PM, at the American Legion Post #305, 201 N. Maple Street. There will be a wide array of homemade chocolates, including chocolate cheesecake, chocolate pie, chocolate torte, fudge, brownies, mousse, cookies and candy. Wineries will supply samples to taste and bottles of wine to purchase. Snow date is January 21.
Dr. David Wood, from Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare, will speak about the Importance of Health Screening at the Warsaw Senior Center, at 12:15 PM, January 18. Of course, there are plenty of other activities going on weekdays at the Center, located at Harbor Village, 17571 N. Dam Access Road. 
Mary’s card game takes place Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:45 AM and Bingo is on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:45 AM. Fun and games are Wednesdays and Fridays at 12:30 PM, Pilates is Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:30 and 10 AM, and Zumba Gold takes place Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:40 and 11PM. There are Joint-friendly exercises on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:45 AM, and Dances from 1 to 5 PM monthly on varying days. Tai Chi is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 3 PM, and there is Exercise with Cyndee involving dance, Tai Chi and exercise from 4:30 to 5:30 PM on Mondays and Thursdays. In addition, there are crafts, line dancing, Weight Watchers (5 PM on Mondays), and music classes.
The Computer Room is open 8 AM to 3 PM daily when no computer classes are scheduled. There is also a Basic Computer Class being offered by appointment for those who want to spend 30 minutes asking questions, and getting information about their computers and smart phones. Appointments may be made by calling 660-438-3300. A $5 donation for the class is suggested.
The Senior Center offers Fitness gym membership from 8 AM to 3 PM. It is $15 monthly for those 60 and older, and $25 monthly for others. There is also the option of paying $1 per day for those 60 and older, or $2 a day for others.
The Cole Camp Senior Center, at 206 W. Junge Street, offers regular activities including Arm Chair Exercises on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9 to 9:30 AM, and Enhanced Fitness on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 9:30 AM (in the JC Garden Building.) There are free blood pressure screenings on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11 AM, Game Night on the first and third Tuesdays at 6 PM, and Bingo from 10:45 to 11:30 AM every Thursday.  A Birthday Dinner is held the third Friday of every month. The Warsaw Branch of Boonslick Regional Library, offers many regular activities during the week. Coming up on January 13 is the Saturday Book Club from 10 to 11 AM, and the Writer’s Group that meets from 3 to 5 PM. Free Tech Time is offered, by appointment, for those who want to learn basic information about computers. Call the library at 660-438-5211 if interested. Library hours are 9 AM to 5:30, Monday through Saturday.
Believe it or not, preparations are already being made for an Easter Cantata to be performed by the Community Choir.  Those interested will start practice on January 14, 5 PM, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. For more information, call Worship Pastor Jason Brown at 417-298-4017.
