Boating and Business Boomed Over Memorial Day Weekend

Perfect weather brought thousands of people to the twin lake area during the three-day Memorial Day weekend.
 
Osage Bluff Marina manager Jason Reynolds reported a perfect beginning to the summer for the lake area. 
 
“This was the best Memorial Day weekend ever,” said Reynolds.  “The weather was perfect; the fish were biting and everyone seemed to be having a good time.”
 
Reynolds is beginning his forty-second year at his location on Truman Lake.

Fire Up The Grill! OBR Feeds First Responders

First responders from EMTs to Sheriff’s deputies were treated to a BBQ meal at the Warsaw Community Building on May 25 by Operation BBQ Relief (OBR), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that feeds individuals in need after natural disasters. Local member of the organization, Brett Atkinson, said that OBR gets together every year to celebrate the organization’s birthday and after their celebration this month wanted to do something for first responders with their surplus of meat.

Cole Camp Mayor Bob Meuschke, Lincoln Mayor Glen Nelson and Warsaw City Administrator Randy Pogue were among the guests at a West Central Association of Realtors meeting at the Yellow Deli on May 25.
 
The county representatives were there to discuss possible grants for improvements to the three Benton County towns.

Offering affordable housing to people of Benton County for over 50 years, Pitts Homes of Warsaw helped a local family this past week to reach their goal of home ownership as their 1800 square foot home was delivered to their family farm near Warsaw on Wednesday, May 17.
 
Pitts manager Jerry Downs was on site to oversee the placement as two large cranes lifted the sections of the house on the basement of the home of Stan and Amanda Adler.
 

Harbor Village Rings In 10 Years With Fantastic Day Of Big Fun

Harbor Village, located at 17571 N. Dam Access Road in Warsaw, celebrated its tenth anniversary on May 18 with an open house, and received a Proclamation signed by Warsaw Mayor Eddie Simons in honor of the event. The celebration took place from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M. with presentations, a meatloaf lunch, information booths, exercise classes, bingo, and blood pressure checks. The facility is home to the Warsaw Senior Center/Village Café, Katy Trail Community Health, and Compass Health Network.
 

Siegel And Laue Claim Top Two Spots At WHS

The top two graduating seniors gave speeches at the WHS graduation Thursday night, May 18.  Both of the graduates have plans to continue their education next year.
 
Anna Siegel, the daughter of Bethany Siegel and Zachary Siegel, graduated as the valedictorian of the Class of 2023.  During her high school career, she was the president of Math Club, co-president of FBLA; vice president of National Honor Society and treasurer of Student Council.  Siegel was also active in golf and archery.
 

Lincoln Falls To Tipton In Sectional Game

Tipton's Tyler Baer scored on a passed ball from third in the fourth inning in a 1-0 victory for Tipton over Lincoln in sectional play on Monday night in Lincoln.
 
Lincoln's Connor Lynde and Tipton's Lucas Cashman hooked up in a pitcher's duel as both pitched complete games. Lynde went six and gave up three hits, struck out 13 and walked two. Cashman went the full seven as the home team on the score board.  He struck out seven, including the side in the sixth and walked just one.

A problem facing small towns in this area is hiring and retaining police officers. From time to time several of Benton County's towns have addressed the issue, with at least two towns even offering to train a person interested in hiring into the local Department. Thus when City Police Chief Jeff Canfield reported Thursday eve that he had interviewed a prospective reserve officer that day, the group enthusiastically responded with "Bring him on!"
