Local Law Enforcement is teaming up with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Region 7, which includes Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska for the national U Drive. U Text. U Pay. high-visibility enforcement campaign. From April 3-10, 2023, law enforcement officers will work together to enforce texting and distracted driving laws.
 

MDC Offers Spring Wildflower Hike April 15

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host a guided spring wildflower hike from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 15, at the Big Buffalo Creek Conservation Area southeast of Cole Camp. Join MDC biologists as they look for early blooming wildflowers such as Dutchman’s breeches, Jack-in-the-Pulpit, and many others. The area has a variety of wildflowers with more than 20 spring ephemerals. Flowering dogwoods may be blooming on the forested hillsides.

Young Hunters Took 2,550 Turkeys Over Weekend

Preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) shows that young turkey hunters in Missouri harvested 2,550 birds over the past youth weekend, April 1 and 2. Top harvest counties were Osage with 71 birds harvested, Miller with 65, and Texas with 64.
 
Young hunters checked 2,881 birds during the 2022 spring youth weekend.

Ecker, Boatwright To Lead Highways and Transportation Commission

Terry L. Ecker, Elmo, and W. Dustin Boatwright, Cape Girardeau, will serve as chair and vice chair, respectively, of the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission. The commission voted them into their leadership roles at its monthly meeting today.
 
Ecker, a Republican, was appointed to the commission in September 2017. Boatwright, an Independent, was appointed to the commission in September 2020.
