Shrimp Boil Hauls In Tasteful Success

About 700 people ate shrimp, chicken parmesan, baked potatoes, coleslaw, homemade shrimp sauce and desserts at the annual shrimp boil benefit on Saturday, November 2, from 3 to 7 PM. Drinks included iced tea and beer. The popular event is the biggest fundraiser sponsored by the Warsaw Knights of Columbus. Proceeds are donated to local and Catholic charities during the year.

Life can change in an instant. No one is more aware of that than local resident J.D. Wilson, who was involved in a chemical flash fire on Tuesday, September 24 at 1:30 PM near Climax Springs. A Warsaw resident and owner of a take-out BBQ restaurant, he was seriously burned while working in a home in Climax Springs on Tuesday, September 24. The football coach for a local youth team, and father of three, was helping to put in a new washer and dryer for a couple, when an explosion occurred. Another man was helping with the job, but was outside of the house during the accident.

There was probably no safer place to be than at the  Community Appreciation Day that took place at Hare Park, Lincoln, on Saturday, September 28. A total of about 500 people participated in the event including Benton County 911, Benton County Emergency Management Team, Missouri Highway Patrol S.W.A.T., Emergency Medical Services, K-9, Sheriff’s Office, other law enforcement entities and about 375 visitors. Although an Air Evac helicopter was scheduled to take part in the event, it was unable to show up most likely because of strong winds and the threat of rain.

One such musical artist is Keith Wood, 31, who describes himself as an acoustic singer/songwriter who plays the guitar and does a little country, folk and punk music.

Golf Tournament Keeps Local Focus For A Cure

Golfers enjoyed a day on Shawnee Bend Golf Course while they raised $21,000 for the Benton County Cancer Fund at their Nineteenth Annual Benton County Cancer Golf Tourney on September 18.
Chair of the event Kelly Stackhouse reported that nearly 100 sponsors and 70 golfers helped the BC Cancer Fund to raise the money.

Mission Trip Fires Up Youth With Inspiration

Imagine the eye-opening differences between life in Benton County and that of Native Americans in the northeastern part of South Dakota. A group of 12 IGNITE youth from First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Warsaw experienced first-hand the differences in culture, economic stability and education between the two locations during a mission trip to the Lake Traverse Reservation from July 21 to 26. They learned that spending time with people is valued more by the Native Americans than being on time to appointments or events.  Relationships are their main focus.

Quilt Raffle Will Give Booster Club A Boost

A beautiful Warsaw High School quilt will be raffled off as a fund raiser for the WHS Booster Club on December 20.
The quilt, handmade by Karen and Charlotte Beck, is made of Wildcat t-shirts from all of the various sports. Karen, who worked at Unitog for many years, is an excellent seamstress who taught her daughter Charlotte how to sew. The quilt features Wildcat paw prints as part of the quilting pattern.
