The Lincoln Lady Cardinals won the District 14 girls softball title in Windsor with wins over Osceola 16-0, Green Ridge 12-2 and a come from behind victory over Skyline 10-8 in the championship game. The 24-3 Lady Cardinals had a dominant season and are ranked 12th in the state with Class 1-3 schools.
However, last Wednesday, the Lady Cardinals fell behind early 6-0 and it looked liked their magical season would come to an end. If you have watched the Lady Cardinals play this season then you know they can score runs in a hurry and they take advantage of the defensive errors of their opposition. Although Skyline didn’t make an error, the Lady Cardinals seized every opportunity on the base paths and fought back with five runs in the third and three runs in the fourth  to take an 8-6 lead. They would add one in each of the next two innings to set up the dramatic seventh ending come back by the Lady Tigers.
It was the Lady Cardinals defense that would be tested. Third baseman Sydney Johnson would throw out a runner at home for the second out and it looked liked Lincoln would get out of the inning. However, J. Carter would triple scoring two and it was quickly 10-8.
Then Haley Ebeling would make the play of the game that Lincoln fans are still talking about as Ebeling made  a diving catch at first on a liner hit by K. Hash. If the ball gets through then the runner would had easily scored and it would had been 10-9 with the tying run on base.
Aleah  Paxton went 3-3 with a three run homer in the third. She would turn in a gutsy performance on the mound allowing eight runs in seven innings on 11 hits and with nine strike outs.Genesis Smith went 3-4, Johnson 2-3 and Chloe Reese scored two runs. Paxton would add another RBI for four for the day after the home run. She gave up a homer to A. Curtis in the second.
So both teams had a ball leave the park and neither team made a error. Together those are rare games in girls softball.
