After a scoreless first half, Lincoln made an adjustment at quarterback. Derek Stephens and Dominic (The Dominator) Simmons decided it was time to dominate and this outstanding combination of power and speed flew past Crest Ridge 20-0 on Friday night in Lincoln.
Defense wins football games as Lincoln held the Cougars scoreless with a slew of heroes stepping up for the Cardinals.
It looked as if the Cardinals would score early in the contest as Stephens blocked a punt that gave the Cardinals the ball on the 25 yard line. From there, Simmons powered his way to the 14. However, Jackson Beaman’s pass was picked off in the end zone to stop the drive.
The second quarter saw both teams struggle on offense as neither team could  reach the end zone.
Lincoln took the opening kickoff after winning the toss and declining to the second half. Stephens stepped in at quarterback and  would score after a huge run at the 11:00 mark on the clock. Devon Parrott missed the extra point and it was 6-0.
Gage Kahler would later  race 30 yards for the second TD. Stephens would score the PAT and it was now 14-0.
Then in the fourth, Crest Ridge took to the air and the Dominator would pick off a pass with  6:50 remaining in the game and raced to the 15. Stephens would score at the 5:39 mark for the icing on the cake. The PAT would fail and it was 20-0 .
Huge sacks by Nathan Jobe and then by Caleb Smith forced Crest Ridge to turn the ball over on downs. Beaman, who had switched back to QB later in the third, would take a knee at the 1:35 tally to seal the sweet victory and the district title for Lincoln.
Joe Hickman from KY3 interviewed Coach Adam Curtis and Stephens after the game.
Stat wise, Simmons had 11 carries for 108 yards along with the big interception and ten tackles. Kahler was 2-42 with the TD, two sacks and one pass deflection. Stephens was 20-142 with two TD’s. Clayton Kreissler had ten tackles and one sack. Smith had six tackles and two sacks. Tanner Bays and Parker Engles each had seven tackles on the evening.
Kriessler and Smith along with the rest of the line, opened up holes on the offensive line setting up all three touchdowns.
Lincoln (11-0) will travel to play Lockwood (10-2) on Saturday at 1:00 PM. The winner advances to the Final Four. Lockwood beat Adrian 8-0 last Friday,
