Sandra Kathleen Bates

Sandra Kathleen Bates, age 81, of Warsaw, MO, passed away at her home in Warsaw on Tuesday, April 4, 2018.  She was born on May 10, 1936, in Benton County, MO, with her identical twin (Celia) the daughters of Woodrow F. and Alma (Harrison) Ferguson.
On April 5, 1944, she was baptized by Rev. Wagner at the Warsaw United Methodist Church and joined the church in 1951. Sandra spent her school years in Warsaw and was a graduate of Warsaw High School in 1954. 
On November 24, 1955, she was united in marriage to Robert Gordon Bates in Harrisonville, MO.  Unto this union, three daughters were born; Mary Belle Sanders of Lee’s Summit, MO, Celia Elizabeth Roasch of Warsaw and Rebecca Elaine Bates also of Warsaw.
Sandra first began working as a clerical assistant for the Phillip 66 Corporation. While living in Kansas City and later in Raytown, she worked in the customer service department at KCP&L.
Sandra was a free-spirited woman.  She came from a very talented musical family and spent many enjoyable hours playing and singing with her father and her two sisters, Celia and Ann.  She was a song writer and had written a song sung by Porter Wagner.  Her song  received a CMA award.  She  performed at Silver Dollar City and had also been a judge for the fiddle contest for Jubilee Days in Warsaw. Sandra was also an artist and enjoyed painting and doing puzzles of all kinds. She was a published author and had   appeared on “Who wants to be a millionaire”  show.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob Bates, a grandson, David Turner and a brother-in-law, Steve Martin.
Besides her daughters, Sandra is survived by three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, three sisters, her twin, Celia (Bob) McMillen and Ann Martin, all of Warsaw and Mary Linville of Harrisonville, MO, several nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Sandra Bates were held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw, MO with Rev. Loren Whetsell, officiating.  Family received friends beginning at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday.  Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery, Warsaw.  Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Warsaw.  Arrangements under the direction of Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw, MO.
