The Skyline Tigers jumped out to a 20-5 lead and never looked back in a 67-46 drubbing of the Lincoln Cardinals last Thursday night. The home team led 24-10 after one.
Skyline came out firing as Chris Logan hit a three in the opening seconds. It was 6-0 before Nathan Jobe, the only senior starter for either team, drove for a layup. The Tiger’s press bothered the Cardinals throughout the contest as they controlled the tempo most of the time.
Freshman Lawson Beem had 12 first quarters points and finished with 17 for the game.
Skyline’s glaring weakness is the lack of a big presence on the inside and Lincoln would drive the lane to make a run and cut the lead to 29-22 and it was just 35-25 at the half. Dax Beem would help put Lincoln away in the third with 13 points as Lincoln would go cold from the field with only four points. It was 50-29  after three and the fat lady began to tune up.
Skyline went 15-19 from the free throw line as Lincoln was 5-15. Jackson Beaman ended with 17 points with 12 in the fourth quarter. He was also given the job of bringing the ball up the court against usually two Skyline defenders. Nate Hesse had 16 points as he drove to the basket for the majority of his points. Jobe had eight but went scoreless in the second half.
Skyline has improved since the start of the season and it needs to be stated that Lincoln is still some ten practices behind other teams because of their appearance in the state championship football game.
