Thanks to everyone who voted for the continuation of the fuel sales tax for the City of Cole Camp at the general election. This tax is projected to provide approximately $75,000.00 to be used for maintenance and repair of city streets. It is also used for public works employee wages and benefits for the time they are working on the streets. We are very much aware that there are many streets that need repairs from work done on the water project and these repairs will be made throughout the spring and summer months. The areas that have temporary repairs will be completed with concrete. There are several manholes that need to be raised to street level due to prior asphalt overlays. And there are areas that potholes have formed “just because” and need repairs. Please be patient and know that these repairs will be completed as there is time in the schedules of the public works employees as they continue to do their routine jobs.
The Board of Aldermen will be able to continue to work for the good of the city without losing any time due to changes in board composition. Both incumbents were re-elected and this will allow current plans and projects to continue. The current Aldermen work very well as a team and this is absolutely necessary for the good of the citizens of Cole Camp. If not, much time and energy is wasted in constant controversy. This is not to say that there are not differences of opinion among Board members because differences of opinion are necessary for making the best decisions for the city. I am certain that the next year will be a year of progress for the City of Cole Camp.
