Things around town have been fairly quiet lately. The Festival Season is in full swing with fall and the holiday season approaching. Sports at the school are changing from outdoor activities to indoor activities so you can attend them in comfort. Work on the City Hall window renovations continues. Gardens and flower beds are being put to rest for the winter. If you are burning leaves, please be very careful because the dry conditions and winds are a dangerous combination. Leaving the leaves around your plants provides good compost and is much safer.
The Board of Aldermen will begin work on the Budget for 2025 very soon. If you have suggestions for the budget please talk to your Alderman about them. This is the way for you to give input to the Board regarding the budget for next year. There will be special work sessions that will be open to the public but they will not be collaborative sessions. The public is welcome to attend, but will not be participating in the decision-making process. So get your ideas to your Alderman prior to the meetings.
Heath Roark, Public Works Director, and I attended the Missouri Rural Water Association meeting last week. It was an eye-opener for me as I had very little knowledge of the wastewater regulation and workings. Now I know a lot more than I did, but still need to learn much, much more. The training session for Board members was excellent. The general sessions updated public works employees on the latest rules and regulation changes as well as improvements in technology.
