Bluebirds Football Preparing For Bounce-back Season In 2025

Posted

After winning just one game on the 2024 football schedule, albeit it was a playoff game, the losing season did not sit well with the Bluebirds football program. This time around, the boys will be bigger, stronger and more experienced.

"We kind of threw the junior class to the dogs last year," Cole Camp head coach Kevin Shearer said. "There was no choice in the matter as the previous senior class ate up all the minutes."

This season, the Bluebirds have 35 players to start with and Coach Shearer is happy with his numbers thus far. The summer program started last week and the boys in blue have been in the weight room at 6:00 AM working extremely hard.

Assistant coach Josh Rodriguez is a brilliant defensive analyst and is looking forward to the coming season.

Coach Shearer doesn't like to throw the ball, but ironically it was a pass play at the end of the game from Grant Rodriguez to Blake Abey that vaulted his team to their only victory last season.

Rodriguez, now a senior, and small in stature but big in heart, will again be the starting quarterback. If he gets better protection this season, he will rack up some big yards on the ground.

Abey will retain the kicking duties and will give Coach Shearer and the Bluebirds a secret weapon if needed.

This reporter, over the years, has found that Cole Camp kids are some of the most respectful and nicest kids around. That speaks well of the entire Cole Camp community. Sometimes Coach Shearer thinks they are too nice on the football field. After all, football is a very physical and an extremely emotional game, to say the very least.

So here we are, it is summer, it is starting to get hot and the boys of summer are preparing and already looking forward to upcoming seasons.
