Booster Club Gets Into The Swing Of Things With Golf Tournament

The field of golfers was full for the sixth straight year while other family, fans and Warsaw alumni covered Shawnee Bend Golf Course on Saturday for the 6th Annual Warsaw High School Athletic Booster Club Cat Scratch Scramble Golf Tournament. With a very generous thanks to many local sponsors, the club raised over $8,000 at this year's event and will allot at least $2,600 to their scholarship fund.
Door prizes, numerous raffles, silent auction items and other games were available for participants and guests alike upon their arrival and soon thereafter, Warsaw Athletic Director Ryan Boyer welcomed the anxious crowd.
"This is more than a golf tournament," WHS Athletic Booster Club President Michelle Larson said.  "This is a chance to come together as a community."
After a long day of golf and a lot of fun, the Alcantara Veterinary Hospital team claimed first place in the "A" Flight with a score of -21.  Middle Bridge Antiques took second place honors with a -17 and Interstate Studios finished third with a -12.
In the "B" Flight, after going to a tie-breaker, first place went to the Benton County Enterprise/Birdman Apparel team with a -6.  Second place was taken by the City of Warsaw team, also with a -6, and the third place team was Hawthorn Bank with a -5.
Chance Caswell was the winner of the Longest Putt contest on Hole #3, Mike Ferguson took the Closest to the Pin on Hole #5 and Josh Wisdom was the winner of the Longest Drive on Hole #9.
Every winning team from this year's event donated their winnings back to the Booster Club.
40 of the 72 golfers in this year's field were Warsaw alumni and 13 more were either current or former coaches for the Wildcats.
The Munch Truck was on-site all day to serve golfers and other guests and the food was a huge hit.  The Munch Truck donated 10% of all sales from the day back to the Booster Club.
New Wildcats wrestling coach Justin Wisdom was the grand prize winner of the 1/2 beef but he also graciously donated it to the Warsaw High School Athletic Department for them to host a barbecue for their student-athletes.
Larson concluded by saying, "Seeing the community come together, have fun and support our kids, that's where it's at!"
