Cardinals Beat Smithton At Home On Historic Night

Posted

The Cardinal Soccer team (8-11) coached by Zach Adams played the Smithton Tigers coached by Sean Hutchinson. Interestingly, Mr. Hutchinson is one of Clinton’s former soccer coaches. They played at the Cardinal Stadium on Halloween, Thursday, October 31. The Tigers’ young team even with key injuries were able to hold off the Cardinal attacks, holding the score to 1-0 Clinton at the half. The first-half goal was made by Clinton freshman Ethan Newman. The Cards got going in the second half with Newman scoring three straight goals to make it 4-0 midway through the half. This, by itself, is amazing with a freshman scoring four straight goals, a Hat-Trick plus one. These were team goals with the Cardinal back-line and midfielders doing a great job. Gavin Tirey was great in goal getting a shutout. With it being Senior Night it was amazing, and possibly historic to have the next four Cardinal goals scored by four different seniors: Jackson Woodland, Evan Mantonya, Eli Griffey and Tate Goth. Many great assists made these scores possible. The last assist was created by none other than Ethan Newman when he slid a perfectly placed ball into the box for the charging Goth. The CHS soccer team played the 9-10 Odessa Bulldogs on Monday, November 4 in the first round of Class 2, District 6 tournament at Knob Noster.
