Cardinals Lose Two In Saturday Doubleheader

The Lincoln Cardinals lost two on Saturday at Centennial Park in Sedalia. The rain canceled several games over the week so most teams took advantage of the beautiful Saturday afternoon by scheduling some baseball as everyone was tired of watching the rain and the muddy baseball diamonds.
Lincoln lost an eight inning first game matchup to St. Paul Lutheran, 5-4 on an error. Lincoln scored four runs with no RBI's.
Landon Matthews scored on a passed ball and Levi Campbell stole home in the first to take the early lead 2-0.
St. Paul scored one in the third. While Lincoln looked to take the game with a four run lead scoring two in the sixth. Again, with no RBI's as Campbell scored on an error and Caden Smallwood scored on a balk.
The magic in the arm of Smallwood struggled in the fifth giving up three runs. The Cardinals defense made six errors on the day as they let one in the win column slip away as Lutheran won on an error to end matters.
Smallwood went seven and Cole Smith took the loss when the go ahead run crossed the plate in the eighth.
In Lincoln's second game, it was batting practice as Sacred Heart won 16-6 in six innings.
Freshman Camden Everheart took the loss for Lincoln.
Lincoln pounded out eight hits and made three errors.
Lincoln scored one on the first while the Gremlins tallied three runs across the plate in their half of the inning.
Lincoln scored four in the third and one in the fifth to lead 5-3. Like in the first game, the bottom fell out as Sacred Heart scored four in the fourth and a backbreaking eight runs in the fifth. The Gremlins would add one more in the sixth for the ten run lead to halt matters.
Levi Campbell went 2-4 with two RBI's
Omar Torres went 1-3 and scored two runs. Lincoln fell to 6-14 on the season.
