CCA Hosts 15th Annual JH Basketball Tournament

The CCA junior high boys were looking for its third straight tournament championship. In the first game they matched up with St. Peter which was a rematch from the St. Peter Tournament where CCA won 33-22. This time CCA jumped out to an early lead behind the hot shooting of Isaac Curnutte who went 5 of 8 behind the arc on his way to 23 points. The full court press of Cooper Rogers, Carson Wisniewski, Leo Prus, and Matthew Wombles was too much for the Mustangs and CCA cruised to a 54-34 victory. The boys then matched up with Polk County later in the day and this time was led by 8th grader Leo Prus on the offensive end. All ten junior high players saw action in a 54-24 victory. St. Peter then defeated Polk County to finish second.
CCA girls also played their first game against St. Peter which was also a rematch of the St. Peter Tournament were St. Peter defeated the Lady Patriots. Lady Patriots led by 8th graders Brynn Manning, Mackenzie Jones, Kalynn Matney, Kaitlyn Seaton, and Lily Hardin were able to slow down the Lady Mustangs attack in the first quarter, but the pressure and skill of the Lady Mustangs resulted in a Lady Mustangs victory by the score of 44-20. The Lady Patriots in the second game played Polk County Christian and this time the Lady Patriot defense was too much for Polk County. Mackenzie Jones had a big game scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. CCA won 43-14. Later in the day the St. Peter Mustangs defeated Polk County to win the CCA Tournament. The CCA Junior High Tournament was started by Kathy Brown as athletic director and then continued on by Coach Roger Bancroft in his role as AD and now under the direction of Ron Kreisel.
