Calhoun Community Church
Welcome to the Good News from the Calhoun Community Church, “The Historical Church on the Square”. We gather at 9:30 am for pre-church food and fellowship. This is a special time for visiting and welcoming guests as they arrive for worship. We sign cards of encouragement for our card ministry. The bell is rung at 9:45 to call our church family to worship at 10:00 am.
We extend our Sympathy and Christian Love to the families of Everett Hicks and Millie Redding. Sending encouraging love in our prayers to: Gerald Barrow; Shirley Terry; Betty Conner; Grayson Lowe; Barbara Sales; Patty Dump’s Mother, Mary; Sondra Short; Amber, Patrick and Brecklynn Dittmer. We pray for our military men and women and their families, as well as others in service jobs that we depend upon daily.
Joys to celebrate: This morning was very cold, but we were blessed to have the sun shining through our impressive stained glass windows. We were happy to have guests: Taylie Stauber, Matt Snorgrass and David Burson, who thanked the church members for their Love and encouragement, when he needed it; Happy Birthday wish was extended to Sue Lesmeister for her birthday today as well as the ones that had a birthday the last couple of weeks: Barbara Colwell, Jan Reed, Floyd Joy and LaDawn Burson. The congregation was pleased to hear the joyful sound of the song “My Life Has been Turned Around By a Man Named Jesus”, created and performed by Shelby Bicknell on his guitar, accompanied by Jeremy Reed on the drums; Ms Verna was pleased to relay her story of angels that cleaned the way for her to get her car out. We are glad that our former Pastor, Jackson Short is getting settled in his new home, The Veterans Home in Warrensburg; Members of the congregation, as well as our community, are feeling very blessed for our angel that cleared a huge amount of ice and snow. Jeremy Reed worked tirelessly for days clearing driveways, parking lots, streets, etc. Thank You, Jeremy; Carol Lane graced us with Peanut Butter Cookies today. After the services, the congregation went down to the fellowship hall to enjoy food prepared for our monthly birthday dinner.
We are a country church where country folks gather for informal worship and socialize one with another. Pastor Jerry Reed read Mark 6; 34 “And Jesus, when he came, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things”.
Many times, in our world today, we feel lonely. You never really know what a smile or a Good Morning can do to brighten someone’s day. Even a small kind gesture might help to ease someone’s loneliness. We as Christians are called to be social with others. Sadly, in today’s world, we are often captured by our phones and social media.
We are about loving and helping people by leading each other to Christ. We are here for the social fellowship, the Lord and each other. Our #1 Goal is to Love one another. Amen
We are a diverse Multi-Denominational group here at Calhoun Community Church. We invite you to be our guest, any Sunday and receive a blessing for your effort. Come dressed as you are comfortable and bring the children to join in the Sunday School Class during the service.

On Sunday, Children’s Ministry Co-Director Micah Bergen continued the ‘Now Here’ series with a message titled “Sharing Our Hope”. To begin, members and guests were challenged to consider how to describe abundant life to someone who does not yet have a relationship with Jesus. Micah offered three points for clarification. First, we must understand that abundant life that can only be offered through Christ, not material prosperity or favorable circumstances. Second, Jesus is our example, and He shows us the way of abundant life is to lay down our desires for others, even when the world disagrees. He teaches us that in doubt, anxiety, or even in death, we have Him. Even in the storm and in persecution, Christ’s reaction was of calm and peace, because of His trust and faith in the Heavenly Father. Finally, as Christians, we should be sharing our hope, guiding others to Him and towards abundant life. We live in a dark and confused world, surrounded by people without hope or joy. Be ready to share the gospel, the good news. Let us live in the here and now with our eyes open to opportunities to serve others!
First Baptist Church will not be broadcasting services on KDKD 95.3 FM radio on Sundays while the station works to repair their tower. First Presbyterian
Our busy lives sometimes take over and we lose our focus on what is truly important. We can be assured that our loving God embraces us and forgives us our sins if only we ask. How priceless is God’s unfailing, steadfast and abiding love. The choir blessed us during worship with the anthem “Hymn of Promise” by Natalie Sleeth. Rev. Mary Anna Townsend returned this Sunday and delivered the message It’s So Complicated. She chose 1 Corinthians 12: 1 – 11 and John 2: 1 – 11 as the scripture.
The Presbyterian Women will meet on Wednesday January 22 at 1:30 pm in Fellowship Hall. They will be working on “jump ropes from tee shirts”. These will be donated for Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes. All ladies of the church are invited to join in this endeavor.
Soup of any variety will be welcome as we collect these cans for the Samaritan Center. Donations will continue through January and February.
Let’s all do our part to fill up the foyer shelves.
Winter is definitely here and with it may come inclement weather. Our services will be canceled in the event of dangerous conditions of snow, ice or unsafe freezing cold. Members need to watch for a text or call to alert them if services are canceled. If the church is open but the weather turns “iffy” please only use the south parking lot door. As always, use your best judgment to stay safe and healthy.
Tai Chi classes continue on Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:00 am in our Fellowship Hall. Join in the fun while you are strengthening your core and improving your balance.
An open invitation is always extended for you to come visit First Presbyterian Church. A warm, friendly atmosphere will welcome you.
Worship begins at 10:30 am. Check out the monthly newsletter and calendar on our website fpcclintonmo.net.

Trinity Lutheran
The chairman of the Department of Religious Studies at a major U.S. university recently said he did not know ANY of his counterparts at other major universities in the United States who actually believed the Bible to be the true Word of God, or in the virgin birth, Jesus’ resurrection, or that any of the miracles performed by Jesus actually happened as described in the Bible. With these kinds of “friends,” it’s no wonder that Christianity has so many enemies these days.
The fact is, historic Christian doctrine and beliefs do seem ridiculous and unbelievable to those who try to understand or comprehend them without faith, through human reason alone. As Martin Luther famously once said, “ Human reason is the enemy of faith.”
Without faith, our human reason can cause us to doubt the Bible is truly God’s Word; that Jesus was born of a virgin and in his resurrection, that he really did perform miracles while here on earth, and even in the very existence of God. It is only through faith, freely given and worked in us by the Holy Spirit, that we can believe God’s word as found in the Holy Bible, and in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
Where does the Holy Spirit promise to work this faith in us? There is one place for certain: in His church. It is in church where God’s word is proclaimed and taught, and where the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are made available to us, It is in church, where the body of believers in Jesus Christ gather each Sunday around Word and Sacrament, that the Holy Spirit promises to create, strengthen, and preserve in us true faith unto life everlasting.
Come to church this Sunday. The Holy Spirit is calling both believers and unbelievers; those with weak faith, strong faith, or no faith at all. He is calling and waiting patiently for all of us there. Amen.

The bitter cold didn’t keep the faithful from gathering to worship our Savior Jesus Christ.
Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano and Mrs. Rebecca Sowell playing violin. We were blessed to have Fern Kelsay join us in worship service as we celebrate her 105th birthday. Randy Vogt and Clint Keeney collected the offering.
The scripture passage from Pastor Joshua Sowell’s sermon was from Romans 15: 14-33.
In this passage Paul is writing his closing portions of his letter before plans to visit Rome. He encouraged all believers to watch out for false beliefs and live the truths in their daily lives. Paul acknowledged that Christ is the Power behind all our good deeds. We are to seek and spread the God News of Christ to those who never heard. We are to be willing to rely on and support all believers. As we seek fellowship with other believers and through our prayers we strengthen the life of the church. The church is the family of God.
Have a blessed week.

We are an open and affirming church and welcome all to come and worship with us next Sunday morning at 9 am. We were warmly welcomed on this very cold January morning by Andy and Karen Lasswell. We observed Holy Communion this morning. Servers were Dylan Wirsig and Andy Lasswell.
We pray for those families in California whose lives have been changed forever as the raging fires continue to burn more and more every day. We pray for the people of Gaza, our nation and for peace for all. We are so thankful for all of the freed hostages. We pray for each other.
We received a special note from two of our members who live in Florida, George and Mary Huber. We love and miss them!! Our church will have their annual meeting on February 2nd, with a carry-in-dinner to follow.
There are seven signs of miracles given from Jesus that are written in the gospel of John. The first miracle when Jesus turned water into wine at the wedding in Cana showed his ability to transform the ordinary into something extraordinary. John wrote the narrative about all the miracles to convince people to believe and to put their trust in Jesus. It was also written to strengthen the faith of those who already know that Jesus is the Messiah
But, whether it was healing a blind man, feeding 5000 people, walking on water or raising Lazarus from the grave, the message that Jesus sends to us through these miracles is of love, grace and trust. They are signs that show us the newness of life in Jesus and the hope that it brings. It tells us of the gift of salvation. The power and presence of Jesus changes everything.
Dear Lord, It is when we let go of the times that we are so set in our own ways and our assumptions of how life should be, we will know the presence and goodness of you in our lives. Open our hearts and show us the way to all the beautiful and exciting possibilities of this new day. Amen
