Calhoun Community Church
Greetings from the Congregation at Calhoun Community Church located on the Southeast corner of the Historic Calhoun Square. We are Multi-Denominational and gather for pre-church food and fellowship at 9:30am. This is a special time for visiting, signing cards of encouragement for our card ministry, and welcoming guests for worship.
Mr. Tom rang the church bell at 9:45 am. to call our church families to worship at 10:00am.
We extend our Sympathy and Christian love to the family and friends of Rodney Isabell who passed into the arms of Jesus recently. Others on the prayer list are Gerald Barrow, Taylie Stauber, Shirley Terry, Grayson Lowe, Patty Dump’s Mother Mary, Sondra Short, Dave and LaDawn Burson, Amber, Patrick, and Brecklynn Dittmer. We continue to pray for our military men and women and their families, as well as others in service jobs that we depend upon daily.
Joys to celebrate: What a great day to gather and praise the Lord. We were blessed with milder temps and bright sunshine. Ms. Carol brought chocolate chip cookies for our fellowship time, as well as heart shaped sugar cookies for the Sunday School youngsters to decorate for Valentine’s Day, we extend our thanks and a hug to her for her generosity. Shelby Bicknell blessed us with an original song for special music this morning entitled, “Reaching out to Jesus, with Thank”, Kinsley Conner and Brylee Keller lit thee altar candles and served as ushers collecting the offering. Several of our congregation participated in the Snow Flake Garage Sale at Clinton, it’s always a fun time selling our wares and visiting with our many friends who come each year. Many thanks to Jeremy Reed who many of us depend upon to help in time of trouble, he is capable of fixing most anything. Rev. Jerry Reed of Sedalia has been filling our pulpit for several months. In a special meeting following church today we voted unanimously to extend on invitation to Rev. Reed to be our official Pastor. We are pleased to announce his acceptance.
God loves each of His children exactly the same. Whatever you need, He will help you work miracles in your life. We are a country church where country folk gather to praise the Lord and socialize with one another. We are a diverse group and invite you to be our guest any Sunday for worship, we promise you will receive a blessing for your effort. Come dressed as you are comfortable and bring the children for Sunday School during the service.

On Sunday, guest speaker Mason Huff delivered a powerful final message of the NOWHere series titled ‘Prayer and the Laborers’. Mason challenged members and guests to consider what God can do through us both NOW and here. In Matthew 9:35-38, Jesus says the harvest is plentiful and the laborers are few. God calls us all to be laborers and to share the Good News of Christ our Savior. However, a recent study found that nearly 1/3 of Christians are fearful or feel ill-equipped to share their faith. If you find yourself feeling this way, remember that God will equip you when you trust in Him. God uses the ordinary to do the extraordinary.
Everyone needs Christ, the pathway to restoration, so cast your worries and fear to Him. Look for reasons to act on your faith. Don’t miss opportunities to show compassion and to be a laborer! Replace your fear with Trust in God!
First Baptist Church will not be broadcasting services on KDKD 95.3 FM radio on Sundays while the station works to repair their tower. First Presbyterian
Every morning, every day, every evening, every moment, God is with us. His mercy and steadfast love pours into our grace-parched souls. May we listen to the needs and hearts of others just as God listens to us. Worshiping with us on Sunday morning was Rev. Dale Jackson, Presbyter for Vision & Leadership, from Heartland. His scripture choice for the message, “The Possibility of Figs”, was Luke 13: 6 – 9. Communion was served.
Our choir presented the morning’s anthem “Lead Me Lord” by Mark Hayes. A fellowship meal followed the service.
Presbyterian Women met on Wednesday, January 22 in Fellowship Hall. They are making great progress on jump ropes created from repurposed old tee shirts. The colorful ropes will be a donation to the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes. These mission minded ladies are also encouraging the collection of canned soup of any size and variety. The collection will be donated to the Samaritan Center and the soup will be delivered at the end of February. That leaves plenty of time to place a few varieties into your shopping cart and help families in Henry County have a hearty, warm meal.
Winter is definitely here and with it may come inclement weather. Our services will be canceled in the event of dangerous conditions of snow, ice or unsafe freezing cold. Members need to watch for a text or call to alert them if services are canceled. If the church is open but the weather turns “iffy” please only use the south parking lot door. As always, use your best judgment to stay safe and healthy.
Tai Chi classes continue on Mondays and Wednesdays (weather permitting) at 10:00 am in our Fellowship Hall. Join in the fun while you are strengthening your core and improving your balance.
An open invitation is always extended for you to come be a part of First Presbyterian Church. A warm, friendly atmosphere will welcome you.
Worship begins at 10:30 am. Check out our website fpcclintonmo.net. where you will find the monthly newsletter and calendar of happenings.

Favor Isn’t Fair Romans 11:11-17
Hearts were being prepared as we came together to worship and sing praises to the Lord. With construction going on all around us, pardon our dust, we are growing. We look forward to moving our ELEVATE Students and Life Kids childrens church into their own facility this coming February. We could not be more excited to see how God is going to move in their lives.
Pastor Anthony Velazquez opened up the Word with the message Favor Isn’t Fair we looked at how God blesses the gentiles meaning the church, you and I, The failure of some of the Jews opened a door for our favor.
The scripture for the message today came from Romans 11;11-17
We get to celebrate the fact that we have been grafted in; part of God’s family. We are chosen by GRACE, like we heard last week in the message.
Turn around! Look at Jesus! He did not turn his back on you. Turn around and look at Him. We are all in the minority and we hear so much about the minorities and people acting with superior attitudes, when the only one who is superior is GOD! But when we are grafted in we become heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ Jesus sharing in the blessings He promised Abraham. We looked at Genesis 12:2-3 . I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you,and whoever curses you I will curse;and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
Favor isn’t fair, but God is Especially to those who turn away from their wicked ways and call upon His Name. Although many do not deserve that kind of favor, it is God who shows favor even if someone else doesn’t think it’s fair. Quoted Pastor. God favors you and desires for you to always turn to Him.
Come visit us in person for a powerful worship experience; an uplifting and encouraging word.
Join us in person at Life Ministries for one of our two services every Sunday at 9AM & 10:30 AM or live online @ 10:30 AM. We have services Wednesday night also at 7pm. “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the day drawing near.” Hebrews 10:24-25.
“Christianity is a relationship, not a religion.” Not true. Don’t believe it. The Christian religion is real. It’s important. It was founded by Jesus Himself. It is made up of Christian churches everywhere which faithfully preach God’s Word and administer the sacraments rightly. As Jesus said, “...I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matt: 16:19b.
The Christian religion is composed of churches wherever believers gather in the name of the Triune God, and His only son, Jesus. It’s true that in this gathered body we call the “visible church” here on earth, unbelievers may be present. They are not actually part of the Christian church. They are just there.
Some say they never attend church because the people there are not really believers, but think they are going to heaven because their names are on the church membership rolls. Even so, believers should never shun participation in church, the body of Christ here on earth, just to avoid associating with some who are not.
There are tremendous benefits for all believers in Jesus Christ to faithfully attend church. Attend church this Sunday. Attend church regularly. Your faith will be strengthened and you will be blessed by God for your faithfulness. Amen.

Everyday is glorious when we sing praises to the Lord and worship Him. Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano and Mrs. Rebecca Sowell playing violin.
We rejoiced with Mrs. Marta Stoneking on her birthday. Randy Vogt and Clint Keeney collected the offering.
The scripture passage from Pastor Joshua Sowell’s sermon was from Romans 16.
This passage is Paul’s final letter to the Roman Church. He stressed that they seek and learn from faithful Christians and to look up to, follow, encourage, and be an example for others to grow spiritually. Paul also warned them to be aware of false doctrine and to know and follow the truth of scripture. We all must remember to keep the truth and power of the Gospel which keeps us on track in His true wisdom and which brings Glory to Christ. Share some kindness and have a blessed week.

We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord. They will know that we are Christians by our love.
Great is Thy Faithfulness! We are an open and affirming church and welcome all to come and worship with us next Sunday morning at 9 am.
We send our prayers and support for the people of Israel, Gaza and the Ukraine. We pray for our leaders that they will protect our freedoms and bring justice for all. We give thanks for his love and all of our many blessings.
Next Sunday we will have our church’s annual meeting following worship services. It is during this time that we, as a congregation, make decisions and conduct business for the next year. We will elect our next year’s Elders and Deacons to our Consistory Board. Their stewardship work on this important board helps in the everyday functions and the needs of the church. There will be a carry-in dinner following.
David Maggi led our Sunday School lesson. We sang happy birthday to Karen Lasswell!!
Fulfillment is a spiritual and emotional part of our faith.
In the scriptures, Jesus went into the synagogue and boldly announced that, “All things of God are now fulfilled by me”. What did that mean for the people?
His message was that everything promised had been completed. All of the things that were hoped for had already been fulfilled. Jesus had come to save them. It was a powerful statement proclaiming that he was the chosen one, the Messiah and the beloved Son of God.
That message is the same for us today as it was in Jesus’ day. It gives us hope and the inspiration to move forward with vision and goodness. By the very presence of Jesus in our lives, we know that everything has already been fulfilled and our salvation and eternal life is the gift that has been given to us by God through Jesus Christ. Amen
