A Man May Say
-James 2:18

I am not too impressed with what people say. So many scams and lies in our world in that we don't know what to believe.
People make false promises. They pretend to be what they are truly not.
When it comes to faith, works proves out faith. In Humphrey Bogart's last movie, The Harder They Fall, he plays an out of work newspaper writer who is subdued into becoming involved in promoting fixed boxing matches. In the end, his conscience wins out and he does rhe right thing.
The Christian on the other hand is to live a consistent life style. We may fall into sin, but we have good deeds to outweigh the bad.
We are saved by grace, not by works. But works are active in our lives, or they should be.
Does your word mean anything to you? Do your actions back up your speech? Talk is truly cheap. What are you doing for the Lord?

In 1 Corinthians 1:18-31, Paul reveals the problem, then he talks about how the gospel interacts with the issue at hand. To most of the world, the cross sounds foolish. It makes no sense that God would send His Son to die for our sins. Jesus often looks like a crazy person, even to the smart people. They can’t make heads or tails of a perfect God who would send His perfect Son, to be crucified for the sins of those who did nothing to deserve it. Paul says it may look foolish and ridiculous, and it doesn’t always have to make sense. We enter salvation with nothing to give, yet Jesus does all the work. We don’t have to get it. We preach Christ crucified.
Paul, talking to the Church in Corinth, tells them they weren’t the kind of people who deserve the grace of Jesus. The things that no one expects is what Jesus does. God shows these ways to reveal His grace, so no one could boast. Only by the grace of Jesus. This is part of the core of the gospel. We do not deserve that Christ would die on the cross for us, yet He did it anyway. We need to stop focusing on ourselves and start focusing on Jesus. Some of the people in Corinth started thinking it was all about them. They were making their churches about who to follow instead of about what was important, and that is Jesus Christ. If we want to boast we should boast in Jesus! How many attend a church should not determine if Jesus is working in the hearts of those who are there. We can disagree about the things that don’t matter if we agree Jesus is all that matters! There’s no accountability if everyone agrees with everything. It’s perfectly ok to disagree about a lot of things if we agree about the things that matter. A little friction means we’re following Jesus. If we’re united around Jesus, it could change our world if we would let it! It must be centered around Jesus first. Take every day and center everything around Jesus!
