Lincoln City Council met in regular monthly session on Monday, May 12 at 6:00 PM in Lincoln City Hall. Following routine handling of business the council received a report on the 2024 Financial Audit. The city received the highest score possible for an audit, leaving the council pleased and proud.
The council voted to renew membership in the KBRPC (Kaysinger Basin Regional Planning Commission).
Gavin Eichler and Jill Reimund appeared before the council to request permission for a group of individuals to host an old fashioned 4th of July in the Big City Park on the 4th. The chamber will be providing the usual fireworks that evening but this is to be a fundraiser to garner money to send students to Washington D.C. next year. Tentative plans are for games throughout the day and an evening dinner. Both the council and the Lincoln Park Board approved the event and wished the organizers well.
The Public Works report revealed what we all should know. Their work is unending and never done. Presently they are kept busy with mowing and trimming, plus responding to work orders. Josh and crew are still trimming trees along roadways, digging out ditches, patching roadways, repaired washouts and have power washed buildings in preparation for painting, to name just a few of the ongoing tasks.
Police Chief Andrew Breshears reported total calls for service to be 49, 160 traffic stops, 15 reports taken and 2 vehicle accidents. Breshears reported, “Lincoln Officers have done a great job of slowing down property crimes, as we only had one report of shoplifting over the past month. The suspect was identified and charged with possessing and passing a counterfeit $20 bill that was passed during the same incident.”
Officers continue to enforce traffic which is vital to curb drug activity and property crimes within the city. During these stops officers have made five warrant arrests on individuals with outstanding warrants for their arrest. The department will again be working on overtime grant opportunities this next month with the Click It or Ticket campaign. This campaign is geared toward traffic safety efforts and awareness, as seat belts are a person’s single greatest defense in the event of a crash.
The Police Department has brought on David as a full-time officer. David has shown strong dedication and support to the department and the community throughout his training stage of employment. David and his K-9 partner will be a great addition to the community moving forward.
The Lincoln Police Department continues to look for ways to improve safety efforts. In doing this, Chief Breshears asked the council for their support to become a MISSOURI BLUE SHIELD community. This program is a community dedication to improving public safety and supporting law enforcement in efforts to build a safer community. Council supported and approved the request.
No one appeared for the citizens comments session and the Park liaison, Seth Casey had no report to be given. With no further business scheduled on the agenda, the meeting adjourned.
