City Of Warsaw Seeks Citizen Help For Future Of Lay Park

Posted

Starting this summer, the City of Warsaw will be moving into several new projects. Relating to recreation, in Drake Harbor, a new restroom will be constructed that will be a much larger and modern facility. This restroom project will include the expansion of the current parking lot. The expansion will double the amount of parking spaces.

The phase II Steamboat playground expansion will start in the spring. There will be activities in this play area that will triple the size of the current play area with activities that will help develop agility levels, balancing skills, and core body strengths. Some of the items are:

• Hover Net with Custom spoonbill fish themed climbers
• Multi Person Swings
• Various style of Log Climbers and stepping pods
• Buddy Rocker
• Mini City Community
Helpers Log Cabin themed playhouse with a fish crawl tunnel
• Custom Boat themed spring rider
• Custom Log/Rock Themed ADA transfer point
• Big Kahuna Bridge/Climber
• Custom Mushroom Step/Climber
• Custom Frog Climber
• Benches with Shade Structures

Additionally, a restroom will be constructed specific for this area.

The city has also pursued a unique rural strategy to use trail and parks development, along with downtown revitalization, to improve our community and economic development opportunities. This effort has led to the vision of connecting the riverfront parks/trails and revitalized downtown with the three major roadways by transforming them to Complete Streets. Due to a twenty-five million dollar no match grant, in about four years the city's youth and families will be able to safely bicycle or walk on nearly five miles of Complete Street improvements on Main Street, Commercial Street and Jackson Street. The improvements include bicycle lanes and sidewalks, new curb and gutter, landscape and decorative lighting. All this will connect to the downtown and Drake Harbor Recreation Area and trails.

To enhance the current and future improvements, the city would like it's citizens input on the trail network and parks.

In an effort to continue to improve the quality of life, economic viability and outdoor recreation for the area, the City of Warsaw is seeking assistance with a survey.

The City of Warsaw is applying for a trail grant to improve the current trail network and extend the trails out to the edge of the community and beyond to the Shawnee Bend recreation area.

At the same time, the city is creating a Master Plan for Lay Park. Lay Park is a very unique park compared to the other parks. It is Warsaw’s original park and is more in line to a traditional park that provides various forms of recreation.

The community's assistance with this survey will help to create a plan that will open the door to grant funding opportunities for Lay Park. This is a critical and necessary step.

As previously mentioned, Jackson Street is part of the Complete Street improvements and will have new sidewalks and bicycle infrastructure placed.

The survey can be accessed at the City of Warsaw's website: www.welcomtowarsaw.com or the via "The City of Warsaw, Missouri" Facebook page.
