All members of the Cole Camp Board of Education were present for the January 22 meeting in the school library.
The posted agenda was revised to include discussion on bus snow routes which are now available if needed. More information on this will soon be sent to parents. The agenda was also revised to include the adoption of the 2025-26 school calendar.
The consent agenda was approved which consists of the minutes from the previous month’s meeting, the bills and the payroll for the month, the financial statements and the updated substitute list.
Transportation Director Gary Viets discussed the challenges of these winter weather dates and the ice that just won’t go away. Because of this, he has worked with the drivers to develop snow routes that could be used when weather makes it appropriate. As other measures of safety, the busses have emergency chains that can be used as well. As a side note, the board cheered the weather for the coming week encouraging for a full ice melt.
The board is appreciative of Viets’ efforts and thanked all the driver’s for their skill and determination to transport the students safely. Bluebird drivers are the BEST according to the Cole Camp R-1 School Board!
The board reviewed the Phase 1 building project update from Septagon. The project continues to be on budget and on time. The board reviewed conceptual drawings for the potential Phase 2 building project that will take place if the district patrons approve a no tax increase bond issue in April.
The board approved overnight trips for wrestling district and state competition, approved the 2025-26 school calendar and approved the conceptual for the potential Phase 2 of the construction project.
The board heard reports from all administrators, noted the upcoming district calendar of events, accepted the resignation of Shannan Tyler as middle school assistant volleyball coach and the retirement of Gary Viets, effective at the end of June.
The board approved the hire of Maddi Cook as assistant track coach and Rylee Rogers as high school language arts instructor for the 2025-26 school year. The board conducted Superintendent Christina Hess’ review and issued her a new three year contract.
Following an Executive Session, the board named Lindsey Tinney as the next High School Principal. The administration team is working to finalize a reorganization plan that will be presented to the board at the February 18 meeting to be held in the school library at 6:00 PM.
