The Warsaw Playground Expansion project received the FY25 Quad-Lakes Solid Waste Management District Grant worth $25,000 toward the purchase of scrap tire safety surface material which will match the playground's current surface. The rubber safety surface material will triple the size of the play area and provide superior protection for accidental falls.
The top layer of the safety surface will have aquatic graphics tying into the waterfront motif. The design continues the steamboat theme and adds riverfront heritage and natural wildlife of the Osage River.
With over 27 imaginative play activities with an impactful color scheme, the playground will develop the required social behavioral, agility levels, balancing skills, core body strengths, and communal activity of today’s children. Also, more accessible play features for younger ages will be added.
"The City of Warsaw would like to thank the Quad-Lakes Solid Waste Management and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Solid Waste Management program for this grant," commented Randy Pogue, City Administrator and Planner. "This grant will help to pay for part of the $105,000 safety surface."
The total Playground Expansion project will cost $600,000. In memory of his parents, Rick Bibb has pledged to match our community fundraising efforts up to $300,000 for the play equipment.
When the community raises the other $300,000, it will fund the year-round, modern, flushing restrooms, sitting benches and shade structures.
This grant brings the community FUNdraising effort to $90,560. To raise the remaining, $209,440, please participate in upcoming FUNdraising events (such as the Autographed Patrick Mahomes Jersey Raffle on display right now at the City Offices, 207 W. Main) or go to www.WelcomeToWarsaw.com and click on Drake Harbor Steamboat Playground Expansion to make a donation.
