Greyhounds' Bishop Is First-Ever Windsor Runner To Qualify For State

Last Saturday the Windsor High cross-country squad participated in the Class two district meet that was hosted by North Platte. 24-team district race was run at the Platte Ridge Park on a hilly course. Windsor’s cross-country team, under the coaching of Danielle Betsworth, is in its second season. A milestone for the program was reached as sophomore Connor Bishop was the first Greyhound to qualify for the state meet. Bishop will participate in this weekend’s state meet to be held in Columbia.
The girls’ race was first with 92 competitors. Results for the Black & Gold were Lily Betsworth 43rd 25:05.53, Izzy Henderson 55th 26:19.52, Julika Schwarze 80th 30:02.85, Luna Munoz 81st 30:02.94, Ayda Tucker 89th 32:45.98, Ava Burkhalter 91st 33:17.30, Megan Rice 92nd 33:59.51. The girls’ team finished tenth in the team scores.
The boys’ race was next with 112 racers. Bishop earned a 20th place medal with a time of 19:02.29. Also competing for the Greyhounds were Joshua Pritt 51st 20:42.32, Nico Punshon 80th 22:41.33, Michael Graves 85th 23:08.57, Hunter Chaney 93rd 23:32.39, and Malaki Shipps 100th 24:37.18. The Windsor boys placed 12th in the team competition.
Coach Betsworth commented, “Today was bittersweet for our seniors: they did great and ran hard on their last course. Thanks for a great two years from all of you! I wish you all the best and thank you for letting me coach you. For the returning team members thanks for a fun year and I look forward to more memories with you next year.
