Windsor High School Sports Shorts
The wrestling and basketball teams had busy schedules last week both at home and on the road.
Wrestling – Windsor was the host of the Kaysinger Conference wrestling meet which pitted Cole Camp and Stover against the Greyhounds. Levi Williams and his parents were recognized before the match for Senior Night. Nico Punshon, Kimber Drenon, and Williams won with pins. Junior Chase Hampton won in a tech fall.
The Greyhounds participated in the Warsaw Invitational last weekend. On the girls’ side Drenon secured the gold medal with wins over wrestlers from Stover, Sherwood, and Marshall. Mackenzie Wright placed fourth and had a pin against Warsaw. In the boys’ competition Hampton was the champion in the 120-pound class. He had wins over Smith-Cotton, Stover, Warsaw, and Lexington. Malaki Shipps earned third place points and defeated wrestlers from Lincoln Prep, Diamond and Lexington. Punshon also finished third with wins over Cole Camp and Lexington. Anthony Clouse placed sixth with wins over Stover and Smith-Cotton. Williams placed seventh as he defeated wrestlers from Macks Creek and Smith-Cotton.
Boys Basketball – Windsor’s boys basketball team won three games last week pushing their streak to five games. The program hasn’t had a five-game streak since the 2010-2011 season. They opened with a conference win over Stover 59-46. Leading scorers were Rowan Cox with eighteen, Conner Barnes with seventeen, and Ryan Millington with sixteen. Next up was a road trip to Sherwood. Windsor overcame a five-point deficit in the final quarter to post a 49-46 win. The top scorers were Millington with fourteen. Cox and Barnes each scored ten points. Last Friday the Greyhounds scored another come from behind victory besting Cole Camp 54-48. Millington scored thirty points and Barnes added a dozen.
Girls Basketball – The Greyhounds hosted Stover to start the week. Windsor had an 11-6 lead over the state-ranked Bulldogs before falling 53-33. Dani Ashby and Taylor Luetjen led Windsor scoring with thirteen points each. Next up, Windsor led Sherwood 29-23 going into the final frame. The Lady Marksmen finished with a 39-36 victory, Nevaeh Blythe and Ashby led Windsor with fourteen points each. The Black & Gold finished the week with a 36-32 conquest over the Cole Camp Bluebirds. Ashby led the squad with fourteen points.
