Impossible Things Come To Life In WHS Musical

Posted

Warsaw High School’s vocal music and drama departments will present “Cinderella, the Enchanted Version” on Saturday, November 7 at 7:00 PM and Sunday, November 8 at 2:00 PM.

Filled with the famous Rodgers and Hammerstein’s great music and lyrics, WHS students will entertain local audiences with a fun-filled weekend of the story of Cinderella and her long-awaited Prince.

WHS vocal music director Deanna Schockmann was most impressed with the dedication of her students. “Students and directors have been working long hours,” said Schockmann. “Our students have made great strides embracing their characters. It’s been a joint effort of so many people and we’re looking forward to presenting this production of ‘Cinderella’ to the school and community.”

Retired teacher Katie Johnson has worked with Schockmann on the production.

WHS Junior Amelia Roberts will portray the mistreated Cinderella while junior Addison Hill will appear to take away her troubles as her Fairy Godmother. While Roberts and Hill are three-year members of the WHS Madrigal Singers, they both are also Missouri State Music Festival gold award winning singers.

“It has been great to work with Addie on preparing for the fall musical,” said Roberts. “We have been friends since pre-school, and we have worked together many times preparing for concerts and contests.” Both girls appeared in the WHS production of “The Wizard of Oz” their freshman year as Jitterbugs.

Sophomore Denver Steinhoff will portray Prince Christopher while senior Aleanah Yoder and freshman Connor Roberts will take the roles of his parents, King and Queen.

“This is my first major part in a WHS production and I am excited to be a part of this cast,” said Steinhoff.

“I wasn’t sure I wanted to be in another play, but my Nana talked me into it and it has been fun,” said Roberts. Connor Roberts portrayed Mookie in the fall play “Dirty Work at the Crossroads” last year as an eighth grader.

Other cast members include junior Piper Whipkins as the evil stepmother and juniors Maranda Myers and Angela Cerecero as the stepsisters, Joy and Grace.

“It is fun being the evil character,” said Whipkins.

Other cast members include freshman Aneksa McPike as the royal steward; junior Serenity Culbertson as the coachman; sophomore Brooklynn Murdock as the footman; senior Joseph Katzenmaier and sophomore Aiden Hester as butchers; freshman Lucy Kelsey as the cloth merchant; senior Maya Daughenbaugh as the cheese merchant; sophomore Faith Hartley as the baker; and sophomore Chloe Yoder and freshman Addy DeWitt as girls in love with the Prince.

In the prologue, Joe Katzenmaier and junior Abigail Burnham will portray Cinderella’s parents and seventh grader Olivia Daughenbaugh will portray young Cinderella.

Elementary students Kaydee Turner, Harper Basye, Alaya Basye and Ava Everett will portray the mice while middle schoolers Link Ferguson, Serenity Crowe, Henry Adler and Tassie Compton will portray the horses that pull Cinderella’s carriage. Middle schooler Alia Hill will portray the cat and Lilee Jackson will take the part of the dove.

The curtain will go up on Saturday, November 7 at 7 pm and Sunday, November 8 at 2 PM. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for students. There will also be the opportunity for pictures with the Cinderella characters during intermission. Homemade baked goods will also be on sale as well as the concession stand.

Make plans to come out for the WHS version of the musical, “Cinderella" and support the music and drama departments.
