Martha Ann Weller, 78, of rural Mora, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the Loving Arms Senior Care Center in Sedalia. She was born on January 6, 1947, in Sedalia, Missouri, a daughter of William R. and Dorothy L. (Shepard) Sands.
Martha grew up in a military family and she lived in many beautiful locations including the states of Washington, Hawaii, California, Texas, and Florida. Martha graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1964, where she participated in Spanish Club, the National Honor Society, and the Future Teachers of America. After high school, she returned to Missouri to attend Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg. While in college, Martha achieved her dream of becoming a teacher by studying Spanish and education; she earned her teaching certificate upon graduation in May of 1968.
After college, Martha obtained a Spanish teaching position at Benton County R-1 School in Cole Camp, Mo, where she met the love of her life, Frank Weller, who was also working at the school. Martha and Frank were united in marriage on January 11, 1969, at Warsaw, Missouri, and they were blessed with the gift of two sons, Danny and Ted.
Martha resigned from her full-time teaching position to raise her sons full time on the farm in Mora. When her sons were older, Martha returned to work as a substitute teacher for many school districts in the area. Martha loved interacting with children of all ages and found joy in helping them learn numerous subjects, especially Spanish.
Martha loved her family dearly and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. She had a special gift of always remembering birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions with cards, gifts or a cheerful phone call. Martha never knew a stranger and she could strike up a conversation with anyone. She enjoyed spoiling her children and grandchildren; gardening; tending to countless litters of kittens on the farm; sewing and crafts; reading; writing stories and poetry; watching classic westerns and movies; and listening or dancing to the music of Elvis Presley and Kenny Rogers.
Martha was an active member of St. John's Catholic Church in Bahner, Missouri, where she was president of the Altar Society for many years. She also was a regular Mass lector and CCD teacher there.
Martha is survived by her husband of 56 years, Frank Weller of the home; sons, Danny Weller and Susan of Boulder, Colorado, and Ted Weller and Crystal of Sedalia, Missouri; sister, Barbara Shaw of Clinton, Indiana; grandchildren, Ireland Weller, Allie Offineer, Ashton Walker, and Kendell Potts and Blake, all of Sedalia, Missouri, Gracie Weller of Boulder, Colorado, and Sarah Weller of Norristown, Pennsylvania, Joey Weller of Sedalia, Missouri, and Clark Patton of Missoula, Montana; sister-in-law, Joyce Casey and Richard of Bel Air, Maryland; brother-in-law, Edward Weller and Ruth of Mora, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Briley Potts, Wyatt Potts, and Kohen Burlingame; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents William R. and Dorothy L. Sands; her father and mother-in-law, Edward and Genevieve Weller; and her brother-in-law, James Shaw.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sedalia with Father Gregory Clever officiating with the family to receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the rosary to be recited at 10:40 a.m. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Bahner.
