Posted

Raymond "Gary" Hulsey, age 83, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

Gary was born on September 25, 1942, in Cushing, Oklahoma, the son of Willard and Cora (Hunter) Hulsey. He spent his early years in Cushing before moving with his family to Drumright, Oklahoma, then Barnsdall, Oklahoma, and later Kansas City, Kansas. He graduated from Rosedale High School in Kansas City, Kansas, with the Class of 1960.

Following graduation, Gary proudly enlisted in the United States Army. He served in Hawaii as a munitions specialist, attained the rank of Specialist Fourth Class (SP4 E-4), and was honorably discharged on May 16, 1963.

After his military service, Gary worked alongside his uncle selling diamonds in California before returning to Kansas City, Kansas, where he was employed by Procter & Gamble. In June 1965, he began an apprenticeship with I.B.E.W. Local 124 in Kansas City, Missouri. Gary dedicated his career to the electrical trade as a union inside journeyman wireman and remained a proud member of I.B.E.W. Local 124 for 55 years.

In June 1992, Gary retired and fulfilled his dream of living at the Lake of the Ozarks. Retirement allowed him to devote himself to what he loved most—fishing. Whether crappie fishing or jugging for catfish, Gary found great joy on the water and treasured the many hours spent with family and friends at the lake. Gary was also a proud member of the Choctaw Cherokee Nation and took great pride in his Native American heritage.

Gary was first married to Karen Lawson, and to this union two children were born, Phillip and Kellie. On December 28, 1984, he was united in marriage to Jacquelyn Taylor. Together they shared many happy years filled with love, companionship, and treasured memories.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Cora Hulsey, and his younger brother, Jackie Lee Hulsey.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jacquelyn Hulsey, of the home; his sister, Wanda Johnston (Billie) of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; his son, Phillip Hulsey; his daughter, Kellie Vail (Dennis); two grandchildren, Cody Vail and Zachary Hulsey; three great-grandchildren, Zander Hulsey, Lettie Vail, and Hendrick Vail; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom will cherish his memory.

Graveside services and military honors for Gary Hulsey will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Sunnyside Cemetery near Warsaw.

Visitation will be held one hour prior from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Reser Funeral Home, 101 W. Main Street, Warsaw.
