Noah’s Ark

To some the Biblical account of the flood is a quaint story to entertain children. To others of us it’s the serious God-given warning that it was meant to be. Let’s consider that huge amount of water that it would require to cover this Earth. There were two Biblical sources of this water. One source was 40 days and nights of rain. Secondly, we’re told that the fountains of the deep were opened up. That would allow an amount of water that we can’t comprehend to be available to cover this giant globe. There is ample archaeological evidence that supports the reality of a global flood. It would require less logic to disbelieve in the flood than to believe it occurred. Even so, I’ll go with the idea of the flood. First of all, I believe it because God said it. In the 120 years that it required to construct the Ark, Noah preached continually a message of warning to the people around him. Today the Bible is still sending us that same warning. It says, “As it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be at the second coming of Christ. These words can be a comfort to those of us who believe them. We know on whom we have believed and are confident he can and will save us. If we really believe it, we will live it. We also have God’s assurance that He forgives when we show penitence. We can all thank God for that, can’t we? We all need that blood that Jesus shed for us. I sure do.

Today we see much about Ark findings on TV. I have mixed feelings about them. I’m sure people have mixed motives for putting out exciting stories. Maybe, there’s a profit motive. Maybe, someone craves attention. My personal feelings are that the remains of such a 513 ft. monolith must be somewhere. But if it were found would people pay any more attention to it today than they did in Noah’s day? What would you think if they found the Ark, perhaps in the foothills of seventeen thousand foot Mt. Ararat? It would get my attention.

One “sighting” that has gotten my attention occurred in 1917 before all of today’s sensationalism around the Ark. It goes as follows. This was before the Communist Revolution. The fact that a Russian pilot had Biblical knowledge of the Ark being Eastern Orthodox gives credence to his story. He said that while flying near Ararat in a remote area he saw the Ark of Noah. Later, when he tried to locate it he could not find it. This story ranks at the top of my list of believable accounts. I hope very much that this incredible vessel is found. Surely this would give some people pause to think. I do hope they find it.
