Teresia L. Gerler, age 61, of Cross Timbers, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.
Teresia was born on March 26, 1964, in Portsmouth, Virginia, to James H. “Buddy” Moore and Betty Jean (Stiles) Moore. She was raised in Chesapeake, Virginia, and graduated from Great Bridge High School in 1982. She later earned an associate degree in accounting from Tidewater Community College.
On December 17, 1989, Teresia married the love of her life, David Gerler. The couple made their home in Chesapeake before moving to O’Fallon, Missouri, in 2004, and eventually settling in Cross Timbers in 2022.
Teresia is survived by her devoted husband, David Gerler of the home; her mother, Betty Moore of Cross Timbers; her father, James Moore of Chesapeake, Virginia; two sisters, LaBarbara Moore of Chesapeake and Sonja Roderick (Brian) of Cross Timbers; as well as a close family friend, Rosie Etheredge, and her daughter, Sara. She is also fondly remembered by many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved nephew, James Roderick.
Teresia had a love for trivia, puzzles, and playing Yahtzee—but her greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends. A lifelong animal lover, she was a devoted and caring mother to her cherished dogs and cats.
Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life. Teresia was a member of Good Hope United Methodist Church in Chesapeake and later joined Cornerstone United Methodist Church in O’Fallon. Her strong spiritual foundation helped her face life’s challenges with courage and resilience.
Teresia was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Despite ongoing health struggles, she met each day with grace, strength, and a bright smile. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering positivity touched the lives of many.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw, Missouri. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in O’Fallon, Missouri and in Cape Charles, Virginia at the Kiptopeake State Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
