Warsaw Installs Newly Elected City Council Members

Recently elected city council members were sworn in at the April 21 meeting of the Warsaw City Council. Ward 1 Alderwoman Kim Pearcy, Ward 2 Alderwoman Jennifer Flores and Ward 3 Alderman incumbent Eric Flores took the oath of office and were seated for the meeting.

Ward 2 Alderwoman Lou Breshears left the meeting after serving 20 years on the board as both mayor and alderman.

“It is time for new blood on the council to bring in new ideas,” said Breshears about her decision to not seek another term.

Warsaw Mayor Eddie Simons called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers of the Community Building on April 21. Those present included: Alderman Rob Coskey, Alderman Adam Howe, Alderman Eric Flores, Alderman James White, Alderwoman Jennifer Flores, Alderwoman Kim Pearcy, and City Clerk Jessica Kendall recorded minutes of the meeting.

Benton County Tourism Director Lynette Stokes spoke to the council about the Benton County Arts Fest to be held on Saturday, June 7 from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Everyone is invited to experience the arts in Benton County with local artists, makers and performers! Art competition (cash prizes), artisan demos, hands-on projects, handmade items, live performances and more will be available.

Competition will be held in the Warsaw Community Building Harbor Room with other activities held in Sawdust Alley (Seminary Street and the parking lot across from there. This will be during Jubilee Days so several streets will be blocked off from traffic.

Stokes also spoke to the Council about the Smokin’ HOT Harborfest to be held on Saturday, August 2 from 1:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Drake Harbor in Warsaw.

There will be live music in the amphitheater featuring Trevon Dawson, Danny Button and the Groove Pilots and Sugar Bush.

There will also be food trucks, a beer and wine garden as well as a Kid’s Zone from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM. There will be a $5 admission fee for adults and $3 admission fee for children 17 and under.

In other business, the council passed an ordinance authorizing Mayor Simons to execute a contract by and between the City of Warsaw and Do-Rite Construction and Excavating Company for community development block grant (CDBG) program, project number 2020-PF-11 “Main Street Project” as Project A of a combined bid with TAP funds.

The council also passed Ordinance #581 authorizing Mayor Simons to execute a contract by and between the City of Warsaw and Do-rite Construction and Excavating Company for Federal Project Tap 9901 (538) Main Street Improvements as Project 8 of a combined bid with CDBG funds.

With no further discussion, the meeting adjourned at approximately 6:20 PM.

The Warsaw City Council meets regularly on the first and third Monday's of each month. All meetings are open and the public is encouraged to attend.
