Warsaw Takes Down Versailles In Close One

The Wildcats improved to 10-6 overall and began their late season Ozark Highlands Conference schedule with a thrilling 45-43 win over the visiting Versailles Tigers last Tuesday night.

The up-tempo start to the game didn't necessarily result in many points for either side in the first quarter and things were knotted up at 7-7.

In the second period, the floor went cold on Warsaw's end. The Green and Black netted just one 3-pointer off the hands of Logan Gemes and a 12-3 margin for the visitor's gave them a 19-10 lead at the break.

In the third, the Wildcats battled under the boards, earning several second chance points. Many of those came from the hard work of senior Shane Poyser who scored 11 of his game-high 19 points in the quarter. A 23-16 advantage for Warsaw put them right back in it, trailing just 35-33.

A back-and-forth final period afforded opportunities to both sides, and it was the Wildcats who would prevail, using a 12-8 margin for the 45-43 win.

Poyser led Warsaw with 19 points while Noah Siebert also had himself a good night netting 11.
