Racers Get Down & Dirty At Mountain Bike Park

On Sunday April 10, the Truman Lake Adventure Club held the Down & Dirty Mountain Bike Race at Truman Lake Mountain Bike Park. The race is the first in a series for the UFD (United Federation of Dirt) West Side. 92 riders registered for the event, traveling from all over Missouri and as far away as Pennsylvania to compete. Many of them stayed at campgrounds and motels and enjoyed Warsaw’s beautiful downtown area and restaurants.

Echoes & Wildcat Staffs Bring Home State Awards

THE OZARK ECHOES yearbook staff (left) shows off awards won at the state contest at Mizzou on March 30. They include: Nick Bagley, James Kellner, Lilia Jensen, Emma Johnson, Taylor Howe, Madison Coskey, Rachael Hawkins, and Bailee Steiner. The Wildcat student newspaper (right) also won awards at the contest.  They are: Jazz Swisher, Gracie Comer, Ashley Terry, Olivia Strange, Rachel Henderson, Randi Buchholz, Ariel Harrington-Plaster, Ava Hughes, Riley Haidusek, Abby Dendish, Taylor Banner and Keira Mostaffa.

Judge Pilley Hangs Up Robe, Three Will Vie For His Bench

Associate Judge Mark Pilley will retire in September after almost 14 years of service to Benton County.  Judge Pilley will turn 70 in September which is the mandatory retirement age for judges in Missouri.
 
Pilley grew up in Shawnee, Kansas, and graduated from Shawnee Missouri North High School in 1970.  He continued his education at Johnson County Community College and finished his degree at Kansas University in 1975.  He received his law degree from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, in 1978 and passed the bar in 1979.

No MOre Trash! Bash Seeks Volunteers To Help Clean Up Missouri Roads

Every spring, as snow and ice fade to an unpleasant memory, attention turns to trash that has accumulated on roadsides during the winter months. The Missouri Department of Transportation would like to invite all who use Missouri roads to join us in doing some spring cleaning throughout the month of April.
 
MoDOT spends about $6 million annually to remove litter from more than 385,000 acres of right of way along 34,000 state highway miles. No MOre Trash! Bash is an annual outreach of MoDOT’s year-round litter control efforts.

Warsaw North Elementary To Host Carnival This Weekend

Bring your moon boots and your space suits, it is that time of year again for the North School PTC Spring Carnival.  Come take a journey to space with North School.  At this year’s spring carnival students and their families will be training to be future astronauts.  North School carnival will be April 9 starting at 3 PM.
 
Wristbands for unlimited games will be $10 or tickets for $1 each.  Space station snacks are separate.

Hospice neither hastens or postpones death. It is largely provided through Medicare, Medicaid and other health insurance providers. 
 

Warsaw Teen Saves Her Dad Through 911

Warsaw High School senior Rose Baker was honored as the “Hero of the Year” for 2022 at the Missouri Public Safety Communications Conference on March 15.
 
Baker received the award because of her heroic efforts to save her father’s life during a very stressful family outing.  The Baker family was enjoying a late summer outing on Truman Lake on their jon boat when Baker’s father, Roy Baker became ill.
 
“Dad called 911 because he believed he was having a heat stroke,” said Baker. 
 

Warsaw Teacher Involved In Accident On Mile Long Bridge

A Warsaw High School teacher was involved in a two-vehicle accident on the Mile Long Bridge on Missouri Highway 7 in Benton County on Monday,  March 21 at 11:58am.
 
The accident occurred when Amy L. Spunaugle, 50, of Warsaw, was driving a 2017 Jeep Wrangler stopped in traffic due to a construction zone.  A 2017 Isuzu, driven by Jose O. Oquendo, 56, of North Kansas City, ran into the back of the Spunaugle vehicle.
