Posted
In mid-session Thursday eve, City Clerk Dawn Paul reported a need to update and streamline its website with an ability to, for instance, furnish emergency contact information to customers affected by disruptions to service. After much debate, she was advised to proceed with those efforts. She also said she had received bids to replace windows in city hall and was asked to contact bidders for more information.
The meeting opened at 7:00 PM on September 21 with Aldermen Jon Beckman, Diana Burdick, David Locke, Mindy Fox present. Mayor Bob Meuschke presided; City Clerk Paul recorded.
The group heard early comments from visitors concerning a proposed land and water grant to fix, repair and ADA upgrade the city's Butterfield Trail Park, then moved into regular session; approving the evening's agenda and its August 17 meeting minutes; then they received the August financials for the city and agreed to pay August bills presented
In old business, the group approved a second reading to a water leak ordinance which could limit a customer's liability in such a situation.
In new business, the group approved a resolution to seek a LWCF grant which would accomplish the upgrades to the Butterfield Trail Park discussed in early session.
Planning and Zoning representative Leigh Ann Grunden said P&Z is in the process of establishing a comprehensive city development plan, and is still developing a steering committee.
Because of Public Works Director Heath Roark's absence, no report of recent PW activity was given. Police Chief Jeff Canfield reported his department's activities for two months, saying his officers had not been real busy, but stayed active. He added that the recently concluded city fair had been pretty good, with one vendor getting hurt. He concluded that city hall needs an electrical  generator.
"In the event of disruption to electric service to the city, we will need to be especially able to function," he said.
City Attorney Todd Smith reserved his remarks on legal issues to the evening's closed session.
Mayor Meuschke reported that he attended a 3-day MML training session last week. He recommended such training to all Aldermen.
The group went into a closed session about 8:00 PM. Visitors are welcome to its open sessions, which are usually held on third Thursday  eves.
