Evalene Shinn

Ina Evalene Shinn, age 89, of Osceola, Missouri passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023. She was born on July 4, 1934, in Fristoe, Missouri, the daughter of Loyd and Ina (Breshears) Tucker.

Evalene was saved at age 14, during a revival at Clear Creek Missionary Baptist Church. She was baptized in August 1948 and joined South New Home Missionary Baptist Church. She was later a member of Freedom and L.P. Union Missionary Baptist Churches.

On March 9, 1952, she was united in marriage to James Richard Shinn. Shortly after, she began working at Sears and babysitting in Kansas City. After moving to the ‘Webb Place’, they purchased and ran the Wisdom Store. After the sale of the Wisdom store they purchased the farm where they lived and raised their children. She and Richard milked for several years and following they raised beef cattle, she also worked outside the home at the Boy Scout camp, Unitog and the Warsaw Veterinary Clinic.

She and Richard raised their four children on the farm. Evalene loved God and her family. She enjoyed providing Sunday dinners, raising dogs, quilting with her friends, gardening, card nights, and hosting family gatherings. Everyone was welcome in their home, and no one left hungry. Her love and talent for baking homemade pies, bread and cookies was evident to everyone who knew her.

Evalene was preceded in death by her husband Richard of 70 years, her parents, and daughter, Debbie Nance and a grandson, Derek Shinn (son of Jim and Terri Shinn)

She is survived by her sister Esther Shinn Lowe, three children: Donna Hart (Bill), Jim Shinn (Terri), and Bill Shinn (Melanie), 11 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. Extended families: Don and Kathy Anstaett family, Ted Hackett family, and Gary Martinez family, numerous other relatives, and friends.

Memorial service for Evalene Shinn will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 4, 2024 at the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the Freedom Cemetery c/o the Reser Funeral Home.
