Locals Take The Links For Benton County Cancer

Posted
A beautiful morning greeted golfers for the 23rd Annual Benton County Cancer Golf Tournament last Saturday, September 9, 2023.
The annual event every is held to help raise funds for the Benton County Cancer Fund (BCCF) which provides funds to Benton Countians dealing with cancer. Hundreds of county residents are helped each year with much thanks to fundraisers like this one. Assistance is based on the patient address, not financial need!
The largest contributor to this year's event was The W.A.R.M. House who wrote a check in the amount of $5,000, presented by Rosie Wall.
There were also several $1,000 donors and the committee was able to raise a whopping $31,560.00 at this year's tournament! The amount is considered by the committee to be close to a record for amount of funds raised!
Larry and June Walthall started the annual golf tournament in 2000, and it was recently renamed in their honor.
Larry helped kick-off the tournament this year and spent part of the day at the course as well!
This year's committee would like to thank all of the participants, sponsors, and the many folks who contributed baskets and items for raffle, committee members, volunteers, friends, family members, Shawnee Bend Golf Course and its employees!
The format for the tournament was a 4-person scramble with a full field of 72 players! There  were many hole sponsors, alot of score improvement opportunities, several hole prize games, a putting contest and a "beat the pro" competition!
